It surprises me that Oak Grove was still receiving votes this week after that game against Milnor-NS with other 2 and 0 teams still out there. I know those other 2-0 teams weren't very well thought of at the start of the season and it is early but they are still undefeated. Otherwise I didn't really think anything in the poll was too much of a surprise.

I like that Langdon is in the top 5. They seem to pick up where they were last year and that might be surprising to some. The skill positions are filled with talent and honestly the line might be the best in the region. Granted they haven't played anyone dominate yet but the Carrington game seems intriguing. I know Carrington has a boatload of talent but Langdon looks like they're getting better and better each week.

#1 Hillsboro/Central Valley
#2 Langdon Area Schools -Has played a tougher schedule so far then Velva has so that's why I have them jumping Velva in rankings.
#3 Velva
#4 Bowman County
#5 Bishop Ryan
RV Carrington and Kindred

Part of it is the games people have the opportunity to watch but part of it is also the consistent success the East has had the last 5 or so years (longer in 9 man). Unfairly I think the West is often viewed with a you need to prove it to us attitude. Although this is probably not the appropriate view to take it is easy to see why that is the case based on what has happened in the very recent past. The good news is that once playoffs begin none of that matter and whether you are ranked 1st or 5th in the media polls has no impact. Rankings, regions, which side of the state you are on, etc falls by the wayside and every team has the opportunity to prove who is best. You win the games on your schedule and you keep advancing. you lose and you're done.

I'm not trying to be too cliché but it's appears evenly matched top to bottom. Carrington lost by 1 score. Velva was 1 yard short. Bowman took care of their schedule. Hillsboro is the defending champs.... It's very compelling top to bottom.
