Would that be the same Lyle Krueger that was at Max for a few years?

Don't know if there were any powerhouse teams they upset in the region, though. I hope this thread stays on track with big upsets. I find it very interesting, especially at the region level. In 1986, Glen Ullin and Page were heavily favored in their region but both were upset in the region finals by Belfield and Oak Grove, respectively. I believe Page was unbeaten to that point.

Would have been 2001. Leeds and Harvey played in the region championship both as 4 seeds. Leeds knocked off a highly ranked Langdon team with Lorenz. Not sure who Harvey knocked off.

ndlionsfan, yes it was 2001. Harvey lost to Washburn, Bowman and Kindred at State to finish in eighth place. Harvey did not have a losing record entering the tournament, but finished with double-digit losses (17-10). I don’t know why I was thinking they had such a bad record. I couldn’t remember the exact year because I was at the tournaments in 2001, 2003 and 2004, and all of them were in Minot.

Surprised no one has mentioned FWM beating NS in 2013 region final. NS with Hagler, Grande, Weston and Kvilvang.

Hard to call that a huge upset since FWM was #5 in the State and N. Star was #2

Milnor’s run to the title that year was full of bigger upsets from the Region Title to the State Title

Not really since Milnor had some injuries early in the season which accounted for thier record going into state. And it was a big upset when FWM beat NS. Bigger than when NS beat FWM the next yr.

I can't remember exactly what year it was but Edinburg beat Grafton in an upset like 108 to 28....
