Obviously, this game is a monster. This week in the media you will hear both coaches say, "it's just another game". It's a rivalry game, two proud traditions, region title and some serious playoff positioning on the line. Velva has the home field, but does that really matter at this level? 20 miles separates the schools. Velva has a great home atmosphere and it will be ticked up a notch this week. Weather looks decent... 50 degrees at kickoff (probably in the 30s when the final bell rings). Looks like the major snow system that was previously talked about will miss. That's good considering the game is played on Velva's natural surface vs. Ryan's artificial turf.
Now for the stuff that really matters. Both teams are really strong at the skilled positions so, not to be too cliché, it's going to come down to the trenches as well as the ability to stop the big play. There are plenty of home run hitters on both sides so whichever D-line can get into the backfield and disrupt plays will be crucial. Both offenses are extremely balanced with very capable QB's if they can get time to make plays.
I really don't know. This one is tough. It should be extremely fun for those attending on Friday night. There's a big drop off in Region 3 this year after DLB in the standings so this will be something different for both teams. Dare I say conditioning might be a factor too?
