Region 5

The teams in 9 Man

Region 5

Postby Bigbrew22 » Sat Aug 25, 2018 1:50 am

1. NSGU is gonna wreck the hopes of everyone in region 5 this year with the crap possibility of an upset from Shiloh because....

2. Shiloh...is Shiloh....need I say more?

3. Is where the fun is. MRNE, CM, and RTH are too hard to compare 2 games into season But this is where I think the battle for a playoff spot is. One of these 3 is gonna be odd man out. RTH close under to Linton I thought was ok but then a close over against beach is questionable . MRNE getting torched by NSGU was not surprising. CM over HS I think was expected but I’d note that it was a grinder HS didn’t give many big chunk plays away but it was the constant grind that CM won.

6. HS

7. Beach

8. GCF

This is my take on region 5. Like to here insight on other games

I would add Grant County-Flasher to the mix of teams fighting for the 3rd and 4th seed. Not sure why you have them listed as the 8th team.

Only because it’s too early in the season to really know anything of substance and I’m just guessing. Haven’t looked through rosters just using games played

I'm gonna stick with the Pigskin Preview picks for Region 5

Coaches Poll has:

1. New Salem-Glen Ullin
2. Shiloh Christian
3. Mott-Regent-New England
4. Central McLean
5. Grant County-Flasher
6. Hettinger-Scranton
7. Richardton-Taylor-Hebron
8. Beach

Now New Salem-GU winning the region is a no brainer. But with the way Shiloh played against Grant County. All I know is they return their QB and RB and I heard that they need to replace their OL and DL. But I think Mott-Regent-New England and Central McLean will make it tough match up. Now some people might chuckle and say they'll beat MRNE and CM by 3 scores. But I don't think so I think the #2-4 seeds are up for grabs. Now a lot of people would give it the Skyhawks the #2 seed but I'm not sold on it like previous years. I think this is a different Skyhawk team then in the past. The Wildfire and the Cougars have a shot to get that #2 seed. Maybe GC-F or RTH has a shot the #4 seed. If RTH beats CM then it changes a bit. I see CM beating RTH 34-16.

I think Bismarck will beat M-R-NE by 40, and CM by 30. Also I will take R-T-H over CM in a tight game. I think the #1 and #2 seeds are basically a lock unless some injuries happen, but I think 4 teams will be in the hunt for the #3 and #4 seeds.

1.NSGU
2. Shiloh
3-5 RTH, GCF, MRNE?
6-7 CM, Beach
8. HS

Week 3 shook things up a little bit. I wouldn't be surprised if 3-5 ends up in a point tie breaker situation. Very possible that RTH beats Central, MRNE beats RTH, and Central beats MRNE. NSGU is definitely the 1. Shiloh looks vulnerable, but I think they will still get the 2 seed.

1. New Salem-Glen Ullin
2. Shiloh Christian
3. Richardton-Taylor-Hebron
4. Mott-Regent-New England
5. Central McLean
6. Grant County-Flasher
7. Beach
8. Hettinger-Scranton

My final prediction for Region 5.

New Salem-GU defeats Central McLean next week by 4 scores. The Cougars would lose their 3rd straight game. After starting the year (2-0). But Central McLean will get back on track by winning three straight to get the #4 seed. Against Grant County-Flasher, Mott-Regent-New England, & Beach. Tough to win out but it can be done. CM would finish with a record of (5-3). And I wouldn't sleep on Richardton-Taylor-Hebron. I think they could give Shiloh a good game better than CM gave Shiloh. The Skyhawks & Holsteins will enter the final week unbeaten. With New Salem-GU taking it by 3 scores if not more. I don't think anyone will slow them down. I would be very surprised if New Salem-GU doesn't win the 9 Man State Title.

1. New Salem-GU
2. Shiloh Christian
3. Richardton-Taylor-Hebron
4. Central McLean
5. Grant County-Flasher
6. Mott-Regent-New England
7. Beach
8. Hettinger-Scranton

SKOL Cougars.

There’s two or three teams in the east better than NS.

The west has lost 10 straight state championship and been noncompetitive in almost everyone of those games. Sorry, I'm not buying in.

Maybe the west has lost the last 10 straight title games to the east. But streaks can be snapped and I think it happens this year.

Looks like for the playoff picture NSGU, Bismarck and RT will be the top 3 seeds. I'll say the winner of GCF and CM will be the 4 seed. Beach could make some noise as they host both of those schools the last two games of the year, but I don't think they will win.

I'll say the 1 seed will go to NSGU, Bismarck will get the 2, RT will be the 3 and GCF will be the 4.

Central McLean @ Grant County-Flasher the winner gets the #4 seed for the playoffs. The storm beat the cougars last yr on CM's homecoming 20-0 up in Underwood. Now I believe that this Elgin homecoming. Two teams desperate for a win. Prediction CM 30-16. Or if it's a shoot out 36-30 in favor of CM.

Sticking to my final prediction for this region

1. New Salem-GU
2. Shiloh Christian
3. Richardton-Taylor-Hebron
4. Central McLean
5. Grant County-Flasher

Heard New Salem lost their best wide receiver Soupir to a broken collarbone and one other starter. Was anyone at the game that can shed some light on the game and if that’s true. Shows how good they are if they lost one of their best players and were still able to put those kinds of points on the board. Also feel terrible for the kids as you never want to see anyone get hurt.

Yes Soupir collarbone will be out 4 weeks. Other injury was backup DB. The depth of this team is ridiculous do to the fact they have 14 seniors on the roster. Seniors Wolding and Remboldt both having big seasons at WR will see more action I assume.
