Region 2 Tournament Weather Conditions

Postby Spartan2607 » Thu Mar 01, 2018 7:28 pm

On tonight's weather forecast (3/01), they projected a massive storm front ripping through the region (no pun intended), with some places potentially seeing 8-12 inches. I'm asking out of genuine curiosity, if the weather is too dangerous or difficult for travel, when (or perhaps where) would the Region Tournament take place? I am unfamiliar with the technicalities of the Region Tournament, so apologies if this is well known knowledge.

Honestly, Region 2 isn't going to be the only region affected by this storm...I'm guessing ALL 8 will be impacted. I can't recall a year where we've ever had this type of situation in play. I'll start asking around...

Mother Nature dictates a number of things....52 years ago, almost to the day there was big one.... many have heard of the 1966 Blizzard..... talking with a teacher at teachers Conf tonight she said her class was all wound up today about a storm coming :) ....with that said, it is something we have to take seriously and games can wait or be rescheduled or postponed etc etc.....I remember staying in Langdon ND (at Regionals) all night in the gym one year till things cleared....early March is unpridictable for sure....I think it will affect R1 & R2 more than the other 6.......bottom line, safety comes first and the games will be played !!

There was a time in the last 20 years they played the EDC on a Sunday. I wonder if that was before they played boys and girls on the same dates. Run may remember.

There have been years that they have played on a Saturday because of weather. My guess is if roads are still bad on Tuesday they will have regional games on Thursday, Friday, Saturday.

The same for Region 8. The Saturday games were played in the afternoon as the Well (Williston) already was in use Saturday night.

I hear the NDHSAA has plans and scenarios in place for all regions...not sure when a decision will be made though.

Looks like to me that all regions in the state get delayed tomorrow by looking at the forecast and probable at least eastern half of the state the Tuesday games get cancelled as well. This could very easily see region games pushed all the way back to this weekend. I don't see a major of conflict here other than people may not be watching the class A state tournament instead will be at the class b regionals. The other major point will be is class b will be getting less press and tv coverage because media will be covering Class A. This will continue the trend this year in media coverage from the tv side of things. Here in NE North Dakota we had WDAZ used to do great job of covering class b basketball but now they will hardly give scores only on slow nights. I have gotten to point of not watching sports here anymore because picking order has been lately college scores and highlights, pros, Class A schools, larger MN schools and if they do anything on class b its either Thompson, Hillsboro, or Grafton. In the past they used cover teams in Devils Lake region and always had highlights of the tournaments and now lucky to get the scores. I just go to other sources for information on class b basketball. Other tv stations here in the east even do worse job its all about just the Fargo area. I guess that's what we get when we get concentration of population in larger cities what goes on in rural and small towns unless its some story they want to make into a bigger story.

I think they'll play Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Friday will be in a new location.

Going to assume Region 6 and 8 are pretty much cancelled for tomorrow also as Des Lacs and Kenmare have already called off school for tomorrow......most schools policy is NO SCHOOL no extra curricular activities

NDSCS campus is closed, so would guess Region 1 is also postponed.

Postponing the games on Monday was a no braining, unfortunately who's ever in charge doesn't realize it takes a day to dig out and get the roads cleaned out.

In region 2 things will be good to go by noon tomorrow (assuming it stops snowing tonight). If region 2 postpones their games one more day it really becomes a mess trying to figure out where to play.

Region 3 will play its 3rd/4th place game and the championship game at the new basketball arena at Jamestown College, the first two round will still be in the Civic Center.
