Flying Wallenda wrote:Who coaches at PRFL now? I've always felt Robinson was one of the better coaches in region 2. Success at the elementary/JH level does not necessarily equate to varsity success. Are kids being taught fundamentals? Does the program retain kids? Is the youth coach only coaching to win - playing the same 5-6 kids and not developing the others, essentially running them out of the program?

In watching a lot of region 2 bball the last several years, I've never once thought at PRFL or MM was out coached or failed to win the region due to lack of coaching.
I think they decide which 5-6 kids will be the varsity at 7th grade. They don't try to develop kids that might be a little behind in the program. Many quit cause they know they are not going to play. That is the problem IMO. Your worst 7th grader could be your best senior with development. Winning at seventh grade means nothing! Give all the kids an opportunity to play and learn the game at the younger levels.

Given what was on display this past weekend at NDSCS with the Region 1 teams, other than Oak Grove, who did not attend, who can challenge in the Region 1 tournament?

No one
It is a little harder to motivate kids I guess because they’ve been pampered so much. We’re in the trophy generation, give ‘em a trophy for 23rd place, make ‘em feel good. Make mom and dad feel good.” Tom Izzo, Michigan State Basketball

only shot would be Richland if they get their boys back. W-L can play good defense but can't score enough.

R1
W-L has some really good loyal fans!! this is Key in the big games
I was amazed the noise they made in the snowy Semi final game in Cavalier 9-man football!

I am not sure on Richlands circumstances and do they win for sure had nothing transpired with players playing or not playing.... thats always tough to call, because now they have missed and now that are back and is it the same?

Oak Grove is always tough....rightfully so....but I'm sure the competition will be real

6.Northern cass- getting better
7.Enderlin-bye kid is good, sweet shot
8. Maple valley-all seniors
9. Central cass- young like Richland
10. Hankinson- should be better, boll kid is good

Richland lost to Maple Valley last night, but you have them 5 slots behind them ?! They also have wins over Kindred, Enderlin, and NC. Pretty unrealistic to rank them that low right now, give credit where it’s due.

They might end up there when it’s all said and done. Region 1 has a clear tier 1 OG,Tier 2 also clear WL, 3-8 is a toss up with the way things sit now.

Quality athletes, young, good shooters...could run the floor and score efficiently.

(I don’t want to get into too many particulars as the situation is still active and could inadvertently put names out there).

Richland would normally start 4 sophomores and junior, beat tri-stae by 35 first time playing them then lost on buzzer beater last Saturday, normally press whole game when togehter, its not looking good for the kids coming back, pretty much a railroad job, everyone will find out soon.

thanks Hoophoophoop

the reason I ask is throughout the years during traveling ball and grand am etc etc we would play them (sophs and jr now) and they sure were a challenge and had some good athletes!

plus the only comparison I can do with Richland with Region 2 is that they Midway-minto by 20 and h-c and Thompson had good games with them it look like by score anyway, take that for what its worth
They have 6'4 kid soph
6'2 junior
6'1 soph
5'11soph
5'11soph

and room for muscle is the key

End of Regular Season Thoughts on Region 1 (actual seeds for R1 Tourney)
1. Oak Grove (1)
2. Wyndmere-Lidgerwood (2)
3. Tri-State (6)
4. Maple Valley (3)
5. Richland (4)
6. Kindred (5)
7. Hankinson (7)
8. Enderlin (10)
9. Milnor-North Sargent (8)
10. Northern Cass (9)
11. Lisbon (11)
12. Central Cass (12)
13. Sargent Central (13)

First Round games for R1 for Next Tuesday
#9 Northern Cass @ #8 Milnor-North Sargent (M-NS won 73-48 during season...but NC is healthy now...much closer game)
#13 Sargent Central @ #4 Richland (just played to last night...Richland won by 11...sites change)
#12 Central Cass @ #5 Kindred (Central Cass matches up well with Kindred...could be an interesting 5/12 matchup)
#10 Enderlin @ #7 Hankinson (Hankinson beat Enderlin earlier this season...but if Bye gets hot things to swing in Enderlin's favor)
#11 Lisbon @ #6 Tri-State (T-S been playing good ball as of late...they slow Runck down and they win).
