Bottineau isn't the number 1 team in the state and the University of Central Florida Knights are not the College Football champion. One game between two powerhouse clubs determines NOTHING. All it can determine is ballpark where teams are at competition wise. Your record only says you are better than a terrible team. But, by all means, gotta prepare ourselves for the people who will yell at the poll voters on Monday the same as the College Football Playoff Committee. And, by the way guys, this poll will mean ZERO since in ND High School Basketball, everyone makes the playoffs and has a chance to prove themselves. I know it won't work, but it'd be nice if people wouldn't pull their hair out over a poll for once! So let the sparks fly: go.

Well I’ll tell you one thing. Thank God the College Football Committee doesn’t run ND HS B-ball they are about the only committee slower to fix something broken than the NDHSAA.

How ironic the above post is in that both organizations are basically dealing with same problem how to satisfy there large schools and keep their revenue stream continuing. So you have very little change because it may effect these parties it has nothing to do what would be best for the sport, fans and teams and players because of the money and protecting the turf of these large schools. Unless somebody comes forth offers more money for the change we will see no change in near future.

Bismarck tribune reported that Shiloh lost the 6'6" kid. He was ruled ineligible by NDHSAA. How will that play into the poll next week? Do they have some depth on the bench or another big guy to turn to?

Ogbu is done...he aged out (turned 20). Well Shiloh has a 6-9 kid and plenty of shooters.

I went and read the article, Im sure someone can share it on here. They knew he had attended school in Nigerian, Shiloh just didn't think it was enough to count as an entire year.

From what I understand about the Shiloh situation. This is the players 9th semester since enrolling as a freshman (which happened when he wasn't at Shiloh). The rule states you get 8 consecutive semesters to be eligible from the time you enroll as a freshman. You can play varsity basketball as a 4th grader, but you only get 4 years from the time you enroll as a freshman.

Are they going to have to forfeit any of their previous played games because of this?

No...he stopped playing at the end of their 1st semester; most schools start their 2nd semesters in Mid-January.

Which makes me believe SC knew this was coming. Maybe I should read the article.

I think you need to be in 7th grade before you compete on a varsity level.

Yes you are correct, my mistake. However, it seems that the NDHSAA may be setting themselves up to possible equality lawsuits should an elementary student ever be good enough to play on a varsity team. The allow elementary students to participate in sanctioned music contests.

Getting back to this week's poll:I find it ironic that Stanley can lose 8 points in the poll, 174 last week 166 this week. Only 6 voters did not vote them as #1 which means some voters moved them down two spots from where they voted last week. I can understand the 3 that switched from Stanley to St. Johns. If I assume those three moved Stanley to the 2 spot then the 2 of the other three voters moved Stanley down 2 spots. Last week Stanley beat Ray easily and New Town, ranked #10 or 11, by 10. Maybe somebody can enlighten me on why you would move a team down 2 slots when most voters believe they are 1 or two.

Some voters must not be sold on Stanley...that's my guess; Region 8 teams don't always get the recognition, most years, as Region 8 has regularly been a 'down-region'. Just my take...

After watching the Stanley/New Town game on BEK, I would not put them #1 either. I've seen HCV, Oak Grove, and St. John play and would all put them ahead of Stanley.

NDlinon: Guess I did not see that game the way you did but I will say New Town is one of the quickest teams in the state. They may not be very big but they rebound very well because of their quickness. New Town did not have an answer for Kayden Hanson, Stanley's big guy, but they give most teams a lot of trouble because of their quickness. New Town came into that game undefeated and has one of the best Strength of Victory in the state at 55% and SOS at 60%. This means they have played a very tough schedule so far and their only loss is to the #1 team in the state. As for Stanley their starting 5 are #1 in the state, the bench had some trouble with NT speed but when the starting 5 was in they were able to distance themselves from NT.

I know New Town is a good team and not taking anything away from that win. But from what I saw in that game, Stanley has a long ways to go defensively to be the top team in the state. They have a lot of talented players, but if they run into a tough defense and a team that is sound fundamentally I have a feeling they will struggle. Granted, I have only watched one game of theirs and that is not a big sample. But that could have been what some voters saw as well.

On a side note, I think that it is great with BEK and now even WDAZ televising some of these regular season games. It's nice to be able to see teams play that most people usually are unable to unless they make state. Too bad this wasn't an option in the past as a lot of great teams have not made it to the state tourney.

ndlionsfan, I agree with you on this. What I took away from NT and Watford's game against Stanley is that its closer than one would think in their Region, but just looking at the schedules that some of the other State ranked teams have played, I'm not sure that Stanley has really been tested yet. They haven't even played any other State ranked teams so far. Their upcoming game against Shiloh will be very telling. Shiloh is holding their own even without Ogbu, so I guess we'll see this weekend.

WW: I posted a comment to the previous reply but I focused on New Town. Stanley did lose a couple starters from last year but their replacements had a lot of court time last year and to me are looking better than last year. The defense is quicker and all around better. The guards have been able to stay with most guards (NT quickness gave them some trouble). The forward have been not trouble at all and the middle belongs to Kayden Hanson who has been able to stay out of foul trouble all year. As for the offense, well the Blue Jays are very balanced. Usually in years past a Mr. Basketball candidate like Wyatt Hanson would be the one you have to stop to beat them. This team has a lot of firepower with most nights having all starters in double digits. There are times when the Blue Jays have 5 players on the floor that can jam it at any time that is very unusual for any basketball team. So I guess when a team can shoot the rock from outside, have a dominate guy in the middle, can handle the press, penetrate the paint, dunk, play defense, get up and down the floor, dunk, rebound, and a Mr. Basketball candidate you have the makings of a very good basketball team. They are so fun to watch and I mentioned dunks - the Blue Jays do them all from ally-oops, windmills, off the glass, drop-step, two handed, power one handed and my personal favorite split the zone.
