Anybody remember the minimum number of sports that must be offered for membership in the Big Sky? I wonder if UND is getting down to the limit?

Dickinson St has now dropped their baseball and golf programs. This is a sad trend and I don't see it getting any better anytime soon.

DSU dropping baseball and golf was an effort to keep their other programs strong. They had to make about a 400k budget cut from athletics and rather then spread it across the board and make their other programs suffer they decided to cut the two programs.

It is sad to see these Colleges/Universities dropping sports, but the larger problem is the simple fact that we have way too many Colleges/Universities in this state for the number of people who live in this state. Add to it the fact that the vast majority of these colleges offer the same degrees and it is even more of a problem. It is sad to see sports programs dropped, but that is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to problems with Higher Ed in ND.

One thing the smaller schools do though is churn out people who get a good degree for a good price. Go to any school district in the state and see how many Dickinson, Valley, Minot, and Mayville grads are teaching there. Hint it will be the majority.
