Kaity Hove, Trenton: Freshman 5-5 guard with 16.1 points, 9.1 assists, 8.4 steals and 8.2 rebounds.

Forgive me for questioning theses stats. They only averaged 48 points a game and she was responsible for over 34 of those? and 8 steals a game?

Hove is good. I think her team was really young--8th graders and 9th graders? Short on numbers there so she didn't sub. Kid did everything. She probably did account for 30+ points on that team. So quick. Her steal total had to be high. That girl plays hard on defense in the games I saw. Good passer. Fun to watch.

Congrats to all the girls chosen for the all state team. There are some pretty good kids on this team--and unfortunately, there are some pretty good ones which were left off too. The team could probably have 5 more kids on it as we are talking around roughly 1500 class b girls playing basketball in the state.

On another note, I think the basketball teams are the only teams picked by the sportswriters and sportscaster of ND I believe? Is this right? If I am not mistaken, coaches usually pick all state teams in other sports. Or maybe it is the coaches now...I don't think so though.

Whisper Gourd, Warwick. 26 ppg, 14 rpg on a team that was getting votes and made it to region semis. That's a major snub!

26/14 should be borderline first team.

and what about Leaf? I'd be interested to hear her numbers.

Abbie Kludt - Soph. Hettinger-Scranton had some nice numbers as well. Someone to look for in the future.
12 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 6 apg, 4 spg - all stats produced by Krossover so no inflation here
3rd place team in Region 7

If you want to talk about Region 4 players how about Schwanke from Benson County. She was chased in about 80% of the games she played this year and still averaged 22pts. I'd have to do some digging to find the rest of her stats but that's pretty impressive. She put up 26 against Langdon (#4 team in the state) in the first round of regions in Devils Lake.

There are always snubs every year...some are even bigger snubs when they aren't even a part of the voting process for All-State!

I thought that was Langdon's biggest problem. Defense.

22 per, is still very impressive

Can anyone explain how the all state selections are determined? I'm not saying that anyone of these girls does not deserve to be selected, but wouldn't you think that a Region senior athlete should be on one of these teams? I have a problem with athletes that have really good stats because they play really poor teams, but once you put them on a court against a good team, they struggle.

How does media select all-state? How do coaches select senior athlete?

Coaches select Senior Athlete by each coach nominating the athlete from their team if they feel they have a player worthy of the distinction.
Then each coach in the region votes and the winner is names Region Senior Athlete of the year.
Those (8 athletes in class B) are then voted on by all the coaches for State Senior Athlete of the year.

I am not quite positive how the media selects All State...

It's done by the media. I don't know the process.

Yes. At the same time I don't think Beneda was a slam dunk, unanimous choice for R2 senior athlete. A few years back a girl from Carrington was ND senior athlete of the year and was not all state.

A player with great individual stats has a better chance to get all-state rather than say, senior athlete. Coaches in each region are asked who they think is worth of all state in their region, all names are collected by the media and they take it from there.
It is a little harder to motivate kids I guess because they’ve been pampered so much. We’re in the trophy generation, give ‘em a trophy for 23rd place, make ‘em feel good. Make mom and dad feel good.” Tom Izzo, Michigan State Basketball
