He mis-spoke...as usual!

Pulled up newspaper article that is correct...playing since the SEVENTH grade.

Personally I don't think that the "casual fan" has anything to do with poor attendance. I think factors contributing to poor attendance are...
1. The venue is awful. No business holding a tournament there.
2. People will not like this comment, but the product is bad. I love basketball, but I don't know why someone who doesn't have family, friends, or other compelling interest would go. IMO the final game has been the only one that has displayed an uptempo style, good shooting, and relatively evenly matched teams.
3. There are not many casual girls basketball fans. How many teams play in packed venues, even in their own gyms?

Run, figured the announcer was wrong, which does not surprise me.

#22 was 2 for 3.

That was the first time they had that starting lineup all season.

I don't think the Betty would have been filled to capacity, but I think it would be pretty full.
HighPlainsDrifter wrote:OK, I said I'm a NS partisan, but I have to question the wisdom of the coach. Why would she wait till 1:30 left in the game to take the starters out? These young ladies have to play 3 games in 3 days. That's tough for any athlete. She could have easily taken them out with 6 minutes left. If you gets out of hand, you put them back in. Come on, man!

I'm not disagreeing with you, but I don't think they'll be fatigued Saturday night. NS plays a slow methodical pace and there are so many stoppages. Remember Shiloh played 6 girls in 3 games last year and never subbed in the championship.

Ill take it one further. Put it in Bismarck and leave it. Girls and Boys B in Bismarck. Girls and Boys A in Minot and leave it alone. I have not been to a B that has better crowds or been better run than in Bismarck. Plain and simple.

Not entirely true. I don't know anyone in the tourney but I do have five kids that as a family we love to go to the state B. It's a great atmosphere for them to see at a young age, it just another tool I use to help motivate but unless it's in Minot or Bismarck I'm not traveling that far unless our team is in it

Last game of the day was fun to watch. Olson from ORCS was the best player I saw on day 1 (did not get to see the Kindred game). Mogan and Sundeen from WC also played great. Don't know how old Sundeen is, but for Mogan to be an 8th grader and play like that, she has a bright future.

If ORCS shoots lights out tonight, they have a decent shot at the upset. North Star's D is so solid, though, I don't see them giving many uncontested looks.

As usual Dom Izzo is wrong, Olson started in the Eighth Grade playing on varsity.

Maybe he was wrong or mis-spoke, but when watching the game, I like his display of excitement which keeps your interest as he is not a mono tone sports announcer. With the effort he puts into his broadcasting, he's bound to have an error once in awhile, but thanks to a forum like this, he will surely be corrected.

Just for discussion, what are the enrollments for this year's field? Grant Co or ORCS must be the smallest.

I agree with wholeheartedly. Bismarck starts with "B"for a reason.

I would think EKM would be larger with 3 high schools in the coop. Maybe one wasn't added in?

My guess is that Montpelier is missing from data:
58 Edgeley
45* Kulm
40* Montpelier
(via NDHSAA website directory)

That site also has:
Kindred 205
GU (52*) & Hebron (43)
Park River 147 & Fordville-Lankin 17
North Star 69
ORCS 69*
Grant County 65
Watford City 320*

* - 7-12 data

EKM figures may be close to the above figures the listed enrollments for Kulm and Montpelier are for 7 through 12 not 9 through 12. If like it is for a lot of schools there higher class numbers are now in lower grades not in higher grades. There are a lot of small schools in state of North Dakota running smaller than a lot think they are.

A lot of times in the NDHSAA directory, it is incorrectly listed 7-12 or 9-12. Watford City's is listed as 320 7-12, but that is actually the 9-12 enrollment. Something in the reporting process gets messed up somehow each year.

Is there some animosity between radio coverage and TV coverage personnel of the state tourney? I've listened to some recorded radio broadcasts (more than one station), and they always make a point to mention when a time-out is a 'media' timeout. I don't think I ever heard Izzo declare that a timeout was a 'media' timeout. I get the feeling that the radio guys resent it, or at least want to make sure that their listeners know that it is TV that is to blame for all the timeouts.

I think I remember Izzo saying that it is a media timeout. I can't speak on whether or not there is resentment though.
