Never let their team down with training violations.
Sounds like both are piling up the stats in their senior year. I would expect both to be Senior Athlete of the year for their respective regions based on their stellar high school careers.

I think Royce Verkuehlen will get Senior Athlete out of region 2.
alphadawg wrote:Hankey will have about twice as many yards total offense as Verkuehlen. Rushing, passing and receiving. Yes he has receiving yards while playing QB. He will have way more tackles than Verkuehlen. Since this is a coach voted award I'd be very surprised if the same coaches that put Hankey on 1st team all-state as a sophomore and junior all of a sudden vote Verkuehlen as Senior of the year for the region.

Fair or not I think the player that gets nominated from Larimore will have an advantage. Being on the best team in the state just won the region in 2016 will have a bigger impact than anything you just mentioned.
defensewinsgames wrote:My only issue with Verkuehlen getting player of the year is that I don't believe he is even the best player on that team. That team has multiple great players and in my opinion the Hofers are the most important players on that team. Royce is a great player and probably deserves to be up for player of the year but how do you give it to someone who might not be the best player on their team. Royce is dominate on offense but not on both sides of the ball the way the Hofers are (good on defense but not dominate the times I have watched him play). I know it is a mute point because they don't put up the stats of a Hankey or Royce but still think they are probably better players than Royce.

defensewinsgames wrote:Not sure I agree with one years success overshadowing a better career. In my experience it tends to go the other way with the voting. Not for everyone and I'm not saying it should or shouldn't but usually the better career and 2 or 3 years of sustained success is more difficult to argue with than 1 great year. I would say Hankey has the advantage coming in (whether he should or not).

Are the Region 2 all region teams out Run? I have seen some stuff from other places but not region 2 yet. Was curious how that region shook out.
