going to throw out a guess on the top 5
1. PRFL- #1 until someone beats them
2. Larimore- Senior heavy team
3. Hazen
4. Northern Cass- quite a sleeper here
5. Velva

Receiving votes? maybe Harvey, North Sargent, Bishop Ryan

I was very surprised how close Grafton-PR game was. It is a big rivalry game so you can throw logic pretty much out the window. Anyone know when and where PR and Larimore play.

Grafton returned several good players from last year. PRFL had their running back sitting the first two games of the season. I noticed PRFL had a few younger players (10th graders) in the line-up on offense and defense. I imagine they had first game jitters. I'm suspecting that the Aggies line-up will look a little different in the next couple weeks once players become eligible and gain more experience.

I think Grafton is being a little bit overlooked honestly. They looked alright up front which has been a weakness the last year or two. They have a real young quarterback and had a few sophomores that played significant minutes. They will be better than expected this year. That was a tough fought game on both sides.

I think Grafton will be better than expected also. They also have a new coach, which can breath life into a struggling program. PRFL looked out of sync in the first game which I think they will eventually fix. They may be a longshot at a three peat , BUT, they were a longshot two years ago. I don't think it will be a varsity first half, JV second half in many games this year.

No I definitely agree that they will be in a lot of dog fights this year. I still think they have the talent there to possibly make a playoff run. It definitely won't be like last year where they walk through the schedule. It is always difficult to replace the leadership, fill roles, and find everyone's place when you lose a senior class like Park River did. Give it time I think they will figure it out. Not sure if they are the favorite to win state but I know its a team you don't want to play in the playoffs.

I'm surprised Ellendale-EK didn't get any votes. They put a hurting on a team that returned a lot of kids. I'm surprised they didn't get any votes.

They win this week...they may see that happen. L/E/DP may have returned a bunch of athletes but that doesn't always translate to the field. We may see a shake up within the poll for next week.

I agree but it just surprised me that given the score and the fact that two teams who lost (even if they are good teams) they wouldn't get a couple votes. I have a feeling your right and the poll will look totally different in a couple weeks. Especially since we are only a couple of weeks away from Larimore vs. PRFL.

I am fine with the top five, I never said they should be top five. I said that I was surprised they weren't in the others receiving votes.

but as a voter you only pick a top 5 so for EEK to receive votes someone would have to vote them in the top 5. So I think my question is a fair one.

I guess I was thinking more that I was shocked a couple teams who played close games (and might not have been very good the last few years to earn that benefit of the doubt) and two teams who lost (by more than 20) received votes and not E-EK than that I disagreed with the top 5. I think that the first poll is always difficult and understand why things played out the way they did. Was just expressing surprise and was hoping for a take on if E-EK was for real or not. Didn't mean to offend.

You talking about me Flip? If so, so nice to be remembered. :D

In terms of whether EEK is legit or not, I think the next couple of weeks on the road against ranked opponents will tell a lot. Harvey - Wells County, with a very impressive shut out over an always tough Carrington team, who was favored to win our region coming into the season. I think EEK has a chance to be pretty good but time will tell.
We plan and God laughs.

I think PRFL has a tough schedule this year. Beat a receiving votes team Milnor in a tough fought game. Play Oak Grove Friday who are 2-0. Larimore the next week. Langdon who destroyed R/V northern cass. Harvey who It sounds like is also good,(they beat Carrington). Lakota Edmore, a team that never gives up. And Rugby. Going to be a dogfight every night for the Defending Champs. They will be battle tested come playoff time. Hopefully healthy, already a few out of the lineup.

Certainly a nail biter. I was passing through & got to catch the game. Third quarter turn overs were rough for EEK but they kept composure & over came them. If they can stay healthy, they will be a strong contender this year. Some very impressive athletes.

Has anyone seen Oak Grove or Langdon play? I know they have both played a lot of young kids in recent years but look like they are much improved this year. I'm wondering if anyone has seen them play and could offer some insight into what has changed, what they are doing well, or stand out players they have.

Oak Grove - New Coach, players have bought in to new system and stepping up, more experience...yet still a young, small (in numbers) team, actually has a kicking game (kickoff, FG, EP). Definitely a change in attitude in the FB program.
