So who are some of the good Babe Ruth teams that have a good chance of making it to state this year?

Thompson, Carrington, LaMoure and Kindred are all very good.

So far in State: Grafton (host), Park River, Casselton, Carrington...anyone else? West? Guessing Thompson and LaMoure will end up there yet...

Thanks Rivershark. Rumor going around at the ballpark yesterday was Cando won the series. Thanks for the update. (I edited my post above) Any other teams in?

Assuming Thompson and LaMoure get in, that only leaves two teams West of Highway 281 in the tourney? Guessing Beulah or Hazen gets one of those spots. Who gets the eighth spot? Velva? A bit of speculation at this point that should be settled after today. (Saturday)

Does anyone know how they determine what district plays each other? I know that Park River plays Carrington in the first game of the day. I always felt that it was unfortunate that most of the Babe Ruth teams never play each other other than their leagues.

River...I believe it is just a simple rotation. Carrington played quite a few games out of their league. (Kindred, LaMoure, Valley City, and two different Bismarck teams.)

Carrington is playing their 5th consecutive Babe Ruth tourney.

Carrington beat Kindred, Valley City and has beaten Lamoure 4 out of 5 games. They beat the Bismarck 13 year olds twice handily and split with the Bismarck 14 year olds that did not have a loss. The Feeny kid (Dalton's brother) beat them but he throws 75- 80 mph as a 14 year old, throwing a 2 hitter. Carrington won the second game 5-2. Carrington has just two losses on the year and should contend for the title. I know Thompson is very good and Lamoure can compete with anyone on a given day. Guessing Beulah or Hazen are very good as well. Casselton has to be decent if they eliminated Kindred. Don't know anything about PR, Grafton or the other team out of the West, whomever it is.

Should be a very competitive tournament.

Park River comes into the tournament 19-1. Eight of the nine starters are 15 year olds. They are a fundamentally sound team that I see finishing somewhere in the top four. The question I have with some of these teams is if they are committed to the Babe Ruth Tournament or will they be playing in the Legion Regional Tournaments also? I know a couple years ago, Thompson struggled when they had players missing because of Legion.

Who beat PR? Carrington Babe Ruth is not impacted by the Legion Regionals. At least they moved the BR State Tourney up a week so the two State Tourneys don't coincide. I'm sure Thompson has a kid or two that plays both BR and Legion. Lamoure may have a couple as well.

They lost to Thief River Falls in which they were missing two players. I'll be honest, the competition hasn't been there as in years past. The late state high school tournament and early Babe Ruth tournament really through a wrench in the schedule.

Cando would have had a very real chance at going. They made too many uncharacteristic mistakes and errors which led to PR scoring. The second game, Cando's pitcher scattered 4 hits throughout but had 11 errors committed by his defense.

I think Park River may be the favorite. They are fast, have big bats and some dominant pitching. The real test will be when they face a team that really tests them defensively. I think Thompson will be a tough out and may give Park River a run for their money.

After seeing all the teams today, if PR hits like they did today, no one will touch them. Carrington had an uncharacteristic poor hitting day today, but PR would've been tough to beat today regardless.

Both LaMoure and Casselton struggled at the plate as well. Mohall beat Thompson, but Thompson is missing a couple guys playing Legion. Host team Grafton is currently ahead of Beulah in the 5th.

IMO, if PR keeps hitting like they did today, they will easily punch their ticket to the championship. The race to see who plays them will be interesting.

PR Legion team just knocked the #1 seed Nelson county out of the tourney. (without the Babe Ruth players, A couple of the Ruth kids play a lot) PR /Harvey to go to state at 11 tomorrow. Nice to see the state tourneys not on the same weekend. Kids still have to choose but playing in state is a no brainer IMO.
