Count me in! I'm ready for the smell of green grass, watching grueling events, and being around stud athletes! Walk into the bowl at Bismarck for the state track meet and you are in the presence of the states best athletes, bar none. Okay, the regional qualifiers (by place) meant to fill the outside lanes at state, could be another debate :) Track is the only true sport where you rely on noone and your talents cannot be marginalized to accomodate the marginal. Kids are able to measure themselves by the rest of the best in the field and state. Heres to stackin' up the plaques!!!

Does anyone have a feel for upcoming and/or returning girls "B" track & field athletes that will dominate their events or bring some talent to the track?

Message for radball 'cause I know you're trolling. Give Balla what he needs so you can get back on. Your POV is always interesting and for some reason, always tend to get the conversation started to say the least.
Dude, name the D1 school so you can get on with it!

I never gave her a thought of her as I thought she had graduated. There were so many strong seniors that made an impact last year that I cant think of anyone coming back that stood out last year. Grommesh in the sprints, Vanessa Johnson in the HJ, Megan Johnson in the TJ and LJ, etc. I guess I will need to look back and do some homework.

Right there but just not quite Top 3. Its always tough to rank Girls because there is always some surprise JH athlete that comes out of nowhere. I just listed Top returners in the sprints and mid-distance.

Wow! nicely done! I think the sprints (100-400) could be picked with rock/paper/scissors and will be too close to call, but I think you have the right returners. You mention the young ones coming out of nowhere. That is so true especially in girls track. Without getting into trouble (I hope) the physical characteristics lend to 8th and 9th graders being overly capable and running full out mainly out of fear and youthful enthusiasm. Cool to watch!!!

States best athletes? Takes a lot of talent to huck a shot put and run around a track. Not knocking what they do but far from the states best athletes.

Hmmmmm, hockey nut. What was I thinking. It was so stupid of me to think of all of the three sport studs like 3 sport stud and NDSU tight end Jeff illlies, NDSU Bison starting right ackle Jack Plankers hucking a shot for a championship, All pac-10 800M runner Laura Roesler, etc. etc. My bad as I am almost certain that it has something to do with hitting something with a stick! What was I thinking!

Where did I make a reference about hockey? heck I myself ran track back in high school. It was something to do to stay in shape. Oh and there is a little more involved in hockey than hitting something with a stick. Again nothing against track. Athletes yes but not the greatest.

I'll give it one more shot! I look forward to track because, number one, I like it and the state meet in particular. Number two, I am impressed 3 sport studs in athletic events. There aren't many, and most of the successful ones with multiple plaques in each sport, are running track. This is due to the fact that most 3 sporters dont have any weaknesses like lack of speed, agility, leaping ability, committment, eye/hand coordination etc. They tend to be natural studs and not one sport wonders. Again, nothing wrong with focusing on one sport. Third and last, the 3 sport studs with multiple state competition and/or championship plaques on their walls in 3 sports, tend to congregate at the state track meet. Not all, but there aren't many 3 sport studs who dont show up in Bismarck at the state meet. Im not bangin' on other sports, just enjoy being around well rounded 3 sport athletes. Their commitment seems to mirror their will to win outside of sports as well.

Got ya. Being a hockey guy, I know shocking given my name, I know plenty of 3 star hockey, golf, and baseball guys. I will give you this as far as 3 sport athletes who did track. I coached probably one of the best all around athletes this state has had, Darin Erstad. Guy could of been a D1 hockey player along with his D1 football and baseball accomplishments. I believe he still holds a few track records at JHS.

Alrighty then! We are finally on the same page. Not all 3 sporters/stud athletes are tracksters. I wasnt trying to omit anyone in the first place. Guys like Bachmeir of last year being all state FB, BB, and winning state track titles is the kind of athletes I was referring to. By the way, isn't golf like hitting something with a stick? Just kiddin'

You aint a kiddin'! I have played with Blake at DL and the Cullens in Fargo. Theres no wasted motion in all of their swings. 300 yard slap shots, serious! As far as the stick thing, hockey takes cardio, mobility, quickness, and other athletic attributes. Golf, now that takes me back to hittin something with a stick. :)

What makes track great is that pretty much everything from all other sports is incorporated in our one sport. We have sprinting, long-distance running, jumping, throwing, team-orientated times, and individual-orientated times. Athletes who can win different events like hurdles and jumps, IMO, are the best athletes in the state. However, this does not take away from other sports. I agree with a few posts up when somebody said that the 3-sport athletes who do well in all 3 are the absolute best athletes in the state. I don't want to stick my head into this pointless conversation too far, but if you think that track is simply throwing stuff and running in circles, then you're either somebody who was never a true track athlete or a liar.

As for the actual topic of the post, does anybody know if Asha Smith from Watford City is competing in track? I know she didn't run XC due to injury, but is she healthy? Thanks.

Event to watch this year: 1600m and 3200m Boys Class B. Wheeling and Stone went at it back and forth all XC season, and now they're back. With Wheeling's 4:24 at state last year, will we see the state record of 4:19 fall this year?

Count me in! I'm ready for the smell of green grass, watching grueling events, and being around stud athletes! Walk into the bowl at Bismarck for the state track meet and you are in the presence of the states best athletes, bar none. Okay, the regional qualifiers (by place) meant to fill the outside lanes at state, could be another debate :) Track is the only true sport where you rely on noone and your talents cannot be marginalized to accomodate the marginal. Kids are able to measure themselves by the rest of the best in the field and state. Heres to stackin' up the plaques!!!

States best athletes? Takes a lot of talent to huck a shot put and run around a track. Not knocking what they do but far from the states best athletes.
Wow :!: ...you must not know much about track & field. To be more specific, the field events. My son is a 4 sport athlete(basketball, football, track and baseball in the summer) and he will tell you that it takes a way different skill set to do the high jump than it does with any other sport. These athletes have the ability to jump 5- 6 feet high in the air and the agility/muscle control to twist their bodies over a bar in a way that doesn't knock it down....I'm not sure how many athletes in the state can do that! In track, you are judged on your talent and only your talent, you don't have teammates to help make you look or be better. By the way, you don't have to be a 3 sport athlete to be one of the state's best!
Play for the name on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.
