South Heart Potential Growth

Postby Mandan » Fri Feb 20, 2015 11:33 am

For those not aware, Dickinson's next residential development push is projected to go to the west. Far enough west that they will cross over into South Heart's school district. They have already publicly stated that they will not try to redraw the school district boundaries and will let those students to go South Heart even though they will be in Dickinson city limits. Kind of like how you have Fargo children going to school in West Fargo.

Here's a quote from a story in today's Dickinson Press: "According to early assessments, if land developments west of Dickinson come to fruition, a potential 2,800 additional students could flood South Heart School over the next decade on top of continual yearly average increases — about 7 percent, officials said."

I'm always wary about large numbers like that being thrown around, but even if a fraction of that amount go to school in South Heart, it could push them up to Class A. So instead of a potential second Dickinson high school being needed, South Heart would take up the extra students. At some point in that growth they'd wind up in AA football, which would help the east/west balance in that division.

We have Watford City that will have to move up. I haven't heard much lately about other towns like Stanley that were speculated to have a lot of growth. Any other school systems that are beginning to plan for 325+ high school students?

Not sure if people understand the growth in Watford City. Keep in mind that 5 yrs ago we had 1/2 the enrollment.
current projected for next year by current demographic study
k--130
1--140
2--135
3--107
4--106
5--103
6--109
7--91 7--119
8--94 8--99
9--92 9--94
10--68 10--92
11--86 11--80
12--68 12--90

At this point the athletic numbers have not increased anywhere close to the enrollment and very few varsity athletes have had an impact...just some numbers to try to understand...it's crazy.
