Region 1 Championship: #2 Oakes @ #5 Carrington

The teams in Class A

Region 1 Championship: #2 Oakes @ #5 Carrington

Postby PrepFBrules » Sat Oct 11, 2014 11:27 am

#2 Oakes has outscored region opponents 294-108 in region play, #5 Carrington has outscored region opponents 280-26. Will it be a shoot-out or a defensive playoff-feel battle? Oakes shutout Carrington in 2013 by a score of 39-0 at home. I've watched both teams play, both have their style of play. IMO, Carrington has better big play capabilities, but no workhorse to grind out the game. This one might come down to penalties/turnovers. I really have no idea, but I'll give the edge to Carrington, based on payback and home field advantage... am I nuts?

I don't think your way outa line here. It will be a good one for sure. I think Carrington will be ready and can win. These opinions and who we pick is what makes this fun. Love high school football!....

Anybody know kickoff time? Im thinking its worth the drive to watch. I'll just cheer for whatever team is winning, that way it won't be like cheering for the Vikings each week.

I think Bryce Meehl could be the difference for Oakes. Carrington is fast and athletic but I think Oakes will be able to match them. Can Carrington deal with all of Oake's weapons, with him pulling the trigger? Will be fun to see. Sounds like Carrington's broadcast team specifically are highly confident going into the game. Best of luck to both team's, you have earned this opportunity!

How do the trenches match up? Does one of these teams hold an edge up front?

When the dust settles, there will be a lot less dust in the air.

Oakes has the size , with an edge at the line of scrimmage ,but carrington has some dangerous speed with both of their main ballcarriers.

But there will be a lot of dust on the ground, so are we any better off? Therefore, Carrington by 7

Carrington Punts....Oakes starts at about own 30. 3 and out.

Oakes punts from about own 20.

Carrington starts Drive#2 at own 40. Snapped over QB's head. Loss of 20 or something.

Oakes 26
Carrington 7

Oakes dominated in this one. They dominated big time up front and Meehl controlled the game. Loep ran at will the second half. No doubt Oakes is the better team and if they play again, Carrington will have to contain Meehl or the result will be the same. That kid is an awesome QB. Oakes scored 20 in the second quarter, then just played ball control football. THEY ARE VERY WELL COACHED.

Hats off to both teams, a few penalties, a few turn overs, but both good teams. Tornadoes have legit All-State QB, RB, Guard, and Tackle. Carrington appears very balanced, but does not have an All-Stater IMO. #24 appears fast at times, but is not tough to bring down. #23 is a legit RB, but small for fullback. Oakes's passing game is pretty good for this level, Carrington's pass D is mediocre, surprising considering the speed, often looked confused. Have to give MVP to Erik Loepp, Oakes RB, he runs hard and its pretty obvious he has put in the time in the weight room, he ran through many Carrington tackles. I was hoping for closer game, maybe a rematch in a few weeks?
