Old School Colors

Postby Bill232H » Sat Mar 12, 2011 6:30 pm

I hope this topic might interest some of you. Though an out-of-stater, I am interested in the ND class B scene and its history. I have a copy of the wonderful "Almanac of North Dakota Sports" which has many nicknames of old, defunct schools. But it does not list the school colors (I personally think school colors are more interesting than nicknames). It would be great if some of those who remember would list some of the now gone schools' colors.

These are just some I remember from my high school days

McVille Blackhawks - Red or Maroon, Black and White
Aneta Raiders(?) not sure on that one, but I'm pretty sure they were Purple and White
Then McVille and Aneta combined and remained the Blackhaws and kept McVille's colors.

Michigan Bulldogs - Green, Yellow and White
Unity (Petersburg) Spartans - Orange, Black and White
Tolna Trojans - Royal Blue, Gold and White
Now those schools make up Dakota Prairie which is Teal Black and White and what a time we had coming up with those colors in the early 90's along with the Mascot!

For a short period there was Nelson County North which was Lakota (Raiders - Yellow, Purple and White), Michigan and Petersburg, they were the Panthers and were Yellow, Black and White.

I could be wrong on some or most of these, just trying to remember what was on their gym floors! I've always wanted to travel around to take photos of jump circles in the gyms that are still standing.

They get my vote for the ugliest uniforms ever. Not because of the colors, but their uniforms with the extra large numbers in the front in the mid 90s were terrible.

Showed this thread to my father, who is originally from up in that region. He could swear it was the Sheyenne Phantoms at one point, with black and white colors. Maybe he's just getting old :)

It is the Sheyenne Phantoms. Not sure where Panthers came from haha. But their colors were black and yellow. So you were both kind of right.
