Devils Lake or the Field

Does anyone else really have a shot?

Kinnert is a solid #2 that could, maybe, possibly, sort of, somewhat challenge Devils Lake.

One would think that Kindred, Four Winds-Minnewaukan & Turtle Mountain would likely be in that 2nd tier but Devils Lake (barring injuries) is within a tier of their own.

I do not think DL is in a league of their own. Kindred has a lot of firepower. Could have a future D1 athlete at all 5 spots on the floor this season.

I'll go with Kindred after they picked up their transfer, with Devils Lake a close second.

Casselton/VC/Wahp/FW/HVC/Grafton/Thompson with punchers chances on the east.

Turtle MT/Beulah/DT/Shiloh/Watford in the west.

Honest discussion question, at what position does Kindred have a advantage?

Ouse/Peraza/Starcevic/Sunrham/Bakko can play with anyone.
Woehl is a great coach.
I'm not 100% sure from DL who will start besides Brodina/Delorme/Wirth. I'd imagine Nelson will be one of them.

My question wasn't whether or not I thought Kindred was good, I actually think they are in a second tier all by themselves and IMO the only advantage they have is Woehl. They probably do have 5 D1 guys on the roster but a few are very young.

My questions was where are they better 1-5 or even 6-10 on the basketball court

Bakko-Brodina
Ouse-Brodina
Stacevic-Nelson
Sunram-Wirth
Peraza-Delorme

Not totally sure the 5th starter for DL but they have about 4 guys that can produce whether they start or come off the bench.

We have to appreciate the irony that everyone that sold this new situation was under the guise of "competitive balance" and the first topic about it is titled "Devils Lake or the field."

Who plays the 1 - the older Brodina? I get it Bakko is a pup - but he's good.

I'll go coin flip on Ouse- Young Brodina and Starcevic-Nelson. Starcevic is a difference maker as an athlete.

Give me Sunrham over Wirth close (depending on how the year off affects Sunrham) Delorme over Peraza but not by a mile. No idea on Devils Lakes bench.

These are the two top dogs in the fight in my mind. Devils Lake got the deck stacked in their favor with the changing of classes - any less than a title will be a disappointment.

I still believe Turtle Mountain will contend. They will roll through their region, how is Nedrose, New Town, South Prairie or even Rugby going to compete.

5th starter could be Hofstad. He started as a freshman and sophomore; not sure about last year. They'll need to find a point guard to replace the PG that graduated.

DL is the favorite. I'd say they are in the deepest Region. We'll know early if anyone will be able to challenge them. There should be a lot of good basketball in this division. I still can't believe that they are going to play the Class A state tournament in Fargodome. Is there anything that can be done to get it moved to NDSU? The 8 teams that make the Class A state tournament playing at NDSU would be a great state tournament. Playing it in Fargodome will be a disaster for the atmosphere. Hopefully, the activities association will listen to coach Smith from FWM and not play the state tournament in the worst basketball arena in ND when there is more than enough seating at NDSU to host this event.

I won't hold my breath. Both sides of the vote all universally agreed that the Fargo Dome is a trashcan for playing basketball followed closely by the Alerus. The Shac is perfect for this.

It is a long season and Kindred needs to figure out how to play together. Lots of talent but they need to know that not every night is your night... a team like this is needs to play defense first and worry about offense second... they can do that... I will take the field against Devils Lake.

These lists haven't mentions Jack Davis who started several games at the end of the year for Kindred and if he doesn't start provides a lot of quality depth.

I attended the Four Winds vs Devils Lake game last night. FYI- Four Winds won (so did my wife...at the Casino while I was at the game. lol). Here are some thoughts about the game.

1. It was a packed house. Love to see crowds like that at games.
2. I hate to bring this up but officiating was ugly. Both ways. Numerous calls either blown or just odd. There has to be more consistency for big games like this IMHO....but at the same time I wouldn't have wanted to be in the black/white jersey tonight so not sure I can throw rocks too far.
3. Devils Lake needs to handle the ball better after rebounds.
4. Deng Deng needs to be near the bucket, not out shooting 3's. He scores more easily near the bucket and there are guys on the FW team that shoot 3's much better than him.
5. How does DL not have 2 guys on the block posting up? You have the size advantage big time. Now don't kill me, I am old school. I like seeing big kids with their backs to the rim getting big and pounding it down near the bucket. Maybe they just aren't that team.
6. If you aren't at the DL Gym by 4pm for their rematch, you will end up with a crappy seat. lol

It will be interesting to see how each handles the win and then loss.

Merry Christmas.

I watched the end of the game. I thought there was some strange interactions between the officials and the coaches. I thought there might have been some excessive complaining going. In my experience, complaining coaches make the game worse when it doesn't get address by the officials.

watched the entire game...the other fw players contributed but Deng Deng beat DL almost by himself..it seemed the only dl player who came close to reining in Deng was Delorme but it wasn't enough ...
