Are the 6 man teams playing this fall? I have not heard a word about 6 man on the either of the Bismarck TV sports and I have seen nothing in the Bismarck Tribune or the Minot Daily News. (Though I don't read them every day)

I know that MonDak got bumped up from 6-man to 8-man in Montana this season, so I don't think their JV team is playing 6-man. I think Mandaree cancelled their season due to COVID-19. Williston Trinity Christian cancelled their season last year after a couple of games and now is in a co-op with Williston (not sure if that is effective for this season as an emergency or next season).

For the next FB cycle (2021-22), North Border and Trenton have decided to move down to 6-man and Alexander is moving up to 9-man.

It’s so hard to keep up with everything...and half the schools don’t report any changes which stinks

North Border moving to 6-man continues to blow my mind.

They're in the driver's seat to make a play-off appearance this year in 9-man as long as they beat Nelson County and Benson County who appear to be the two bottom teams in the region. They've already beaten North Prairie, Dunseith and Northstar.

REGION 2
St. John 4-0 (4-0)
Cavalier 3-0 (4-0)
North Border 3-1 (3-1)
New Rockford-Sheyenne 2-1 (2-1)
North Prairie 1-2 (2-2)
North Star 1-3 (1-3)
Dunseith 1-3 (1-3)

Nelson County 1-3 (1-3)
Benson County 0-3 (0-4)

Looking at ND DPI data, next year they will have appx. enrollment of 20 seniors, 25 juniors, 25 sophomores, and 23 freshman.

Same question could be asked about Midway/Minto. They can play 9 man. Strange that Trenton is playing 6 man next year and Alexander is going away from 6 to play 9man. Bottineau going to try 6man after a few years of 9man? be the only 6 man team with 34 players.

Agreed. Would love to hear any form of rationale that supports this move...I was beyond shocked when I saw it. 29 on this year's roster (which should be a playoff team). Geographically switching doesn't make sense because that is a relatively compact region compared to others so travel will get brutal in 6 man. Being competitive isn't the issue either because they should make the playoffs and I heard they played with Cavalier for large chunks of that game (final was 14 to 36). I have advocated on here for other teams to look at 6 man before but this one doesn't make sense.

Unless there was a ton of transfers and people moving away after last year's data was compiled, Minto this year has 19 freshman, 25 sophomores, 17 juniors and 18 seniors. Midway this year is 13 freshman, 9 sophomores, 15 juniors and 12 seniors. Just crazy they have to play 6 man with an enrollment of 128, around half of which should be boys.

From freshman to seniors, Trenton is at 25, 17, 24 and 22. Alexander is at 16, 18, 17, and 15. Again, last years data, and given how up and down the oil industry is, this could be pretty far off from this years numbers.

Trenton's enrollment has to either be steady or rising. You think they'd be comfortable at 9 man if they knew could have a close opponent in Alexander. Midway-Minto and North Border should easily be able to get around 20 kids to play football.
I wonder if North Border's is a just a trial for a few years instead of playing a JV schedule. They have 12 seniors this year. The 6man route needs to be for the Drake-Anamoose's, and Mandaree's of North Dakota, not schools that have been 11man recently

Until NDHSAA adopts 6-man as part of its football plan, you will have teams that will choose to participate in 6-man with larger enrollments than some 9-man teams. I've always said that enrollment shouldn't be the only thing that dictates what division you are in. I'm not sure what NB's situation is, maybe they don't have solid numbers in athletics in younger grades? Is the bulk of this years talent on the squad upper-classman? Are their JH and JV teams solid, or are they getting beat badly? If they have a very talented group of seniors and not much coming back next year, maybe 6-man is the best chance for them to have some success and hopefully get and keep kids active.

As far as teams in the oil patch, more often than not, the students who move in because of the boom will not be students that participate in a lot of extra curriculars.

Anyone have scores from the 6man playoffs? I heard that D-A won the championship again, but haven't been able to find scores or articles anywhere.

Other than Midway...no one really reported scores this year and newspapers never had them either :?
