It will be an interesting year from an off season development standpoint with so much stuff being cancelled or avoided. From what I remember at the state tournament, there were not many seniors so teams that lost big pieces could get hit pretty hard. My thoughts on teams have at least seen a little.

Grafton - shocked they weren't #1. Lost nothing as far as I know
Kindred - have big pieces and will be good but not as deep as Grafton. Apparently not much for weaknesses though...
LEM - Lost a couple big pieces and didn't seem deep. Don't know how far they drop though cupboard is not empty.
Linton - If they get everyone back healthy, I could see them being higher.
Trenton - Of those ranked highly I think they will be hurt the most by graduation. That region seemed fairly weak last year and I have no idea how much the gap between teams in that region will close.
Central Cass - deepest team at state last year and probably the youngest. I thought they would have been ranked higher

Shocked Grafton isn’t 1. I don’t get it.
It is a little harder to motivate kids I guess because they’ve been pampered so much. We’re in the trophy generation, give ‘em a trophy for 23rd place, make ‘em feel good. Make mom and dad feel good.” Tom Izzo, Michigan State Basketball

I realize Kindred has their two best players back, but didn't they graduate five girls? are we sure they should be picked above Central Cass?

Kindred & Central Cass are loaded with talent from Varsity down to JH; these teams just reload. Kindred will take a slight step back when Duchscherer and Johnson graduate.

Kindred looks to have quite the schedule set out this year playing: Oakes, Langdon/Edmore/Munich, Linton-HMB, Shiloh, Thompson, Grafton & Fargo Davies (who is ranked #2 in Class A); Grafton also has quite the non-region schedule with FWM, CC, NC, Richland, Shiloh, Kindred, L/E/M & an always decent Stephen-Argyle team.

Should be a fun year ahead.

I know Casselton graduated two. I don't know how many Kindred graduated but I think only 1 played heavy minutes. I think Kindred is correctly the favorite in the region. Definitely have one of if not the best 1-2 punch in the state and have some quality around them.

I don't think it is so much a reload as the talent in Region 1 has been younger for a few years. This year's juniors are probably the deepest class the region has had for awhile. Casselton and Kindred combine to have 7 that have started a high number of games for at least the last two years.

Why do so many Fourwinds over LEM both teams lost couple of key players last year but i have to believe LEM was much deeper than Fourwinds were last year and Langdon is still returning 4 of their top 6 girls this year. They will still be as big as they were last year and they will be just as quick and as athletic as they were last year. I think by end of the season they will have talented group of players to compete at the state tournament because last year the group played so well together they usually only played about seven girls but they had talented jv team. Also there 6 and 7 players would have started for many other schools so I just don't seem them falling back that much but its going to take time to build leadership for coming year as well as for younger girls coming up to learn there roles on this years team.

My thought exactly. I understand the love affair with Kindred's 2 best, however, Central Cass beat them in the Region 1 final last year, and I would make the case that Central Cass returns all its best players off that team. They graduated 2 that provided great leadership, but return much deeper talent than Kindred. Smith from Central Cass may be viewed as the most physically gifted player in the Region at year's end. Maybe this is the type of slight that Central Cass needs to maintain an edge over the Vikings.

I don't think Kindred lost much that they aren't filling with a "little sister" scenario and I agree that Central Cass isn't getting a very high ranking when everyone is back for the most part. So they go 8-9 deep instead of 11 deep??? Most teams dream of having a 6th man on the bench. Who cares about the burbs! We need a Cinderella story to cheer for this year!

Kindred is a surprise at the top... I agree Grafton...
But Kindred still has girls that can play around Abby... and as long as Abby is on the floor the Vikings are the favorite to win any game. If you can get her in foul trouble than you can beat them... like CC did last year in the regional Final.... But if Abby is on the floor...good luck to you.

I think in a Grafton/Kindred game Grafton should be the favorite, but Duchscherer could possibly go nuts and carry Kindred vs any team.

Only game this year that Kindred will be severe underdogs in is when they go to Davies
