2020-21 Preseason top 10

This is from North Dakota Basketball Hub.
https://northdakotabasketballhub.blogsp ... early.html

1. Grafton
2. Kindred
3. Rugby
4. Langdon Area-Edmore-Munich
5. Central Cass
6. Linton-HMB
7. Beulah
8. Velva
9. Kenmare
10. Shiloh Christian

Couple thoughts/questions:
1) Kindred returns their 2 best players, but graduate 4. How hard will it be to replace them?
2) I think LEM is too high. They were playing 6 kids in state tournament and 2 of them graduate.
3) Barring injury Grafton will be the best class B team since Ryan in 2015.
4) If the parents get the right coach in Linton they could be playing night games at the state tournament.
5) I have no idea on those west teams.

Linton job is open again ?? Idk if Grafton will be one the 2015 Ryan level those teams were all time greats.
It is a little harder to motivate kids I guess because they’ve been pampered so much. We’re in the trophy generation, give ‘em a trophy for 23rd place, make ‘em feel good. Make mom and dad feel good.” Tom Izzo, Michigan State Basketball

I don't think so. I've just heard grumbling the parents aren't happy...AGAIN.

I'm saying they'll be the best team in the last 6 years.

LEM Returns 4 of their top 6 for next year but the cupboard is not bear either they have also Badding girl who played some in state tournament as eight grader and wouldn't be surprised she comes back next year bigger and improved over this past year. There are number of girls coming up in the program that can develop into very good players. This is not to mention the 3 starters returning next year they could become very good team again by end of next season but no doubt that Grafton will be favorite next year barring injuries. Also I believe Kindred will be back next year also to prove something. My guess the above teams represent bulk of the best teams in the state. Rugby will also be very good next year. Shiloh should also be vert competitive with what they are returning. I think LEM way things stand now would be considered fourth in the state if you look at who will likely come out of each region. Central Cass and Velva each has to beat a team above them in there regions. I guess we will get to see how this comes out next year when things play out.

I went SJ since they don’t graduate anyone from this year’s squad...I think the gap from 1-4 will be closer then recent years

2021 Class B Regional Final 4's

Region 1
1. Central Cass
2. Kindred
3. Northern Cass
4. Enderlin
*CC has mental edge over Kindred. Kindred needs to play some better opposition in regular season to get ready for post season. Kindred will do well but tournament is where CC will give them a problem.

Region 2
1. Grafton
2. Thompson
3. Midway-Minto
4. Park River-FL
*Grafton will be good. They have the size and the pt guard. Size will be hard for Thompson to deal with

Region 3
1. Linton-HMB
2. Kidder Co.
3. Carrington
4. Edgeley
*Kidder Co & Carrington coaching is solid. Linton has most talent returning.

Region 4
1. Langdon
2. Four Winds
3. St. John
4. Benson Co.
*Langdon has the coaching & talent. Still will be long & defend.

Region 5
1. Shiloh Christian
2. Grant County
3. Wilton
4. Underwood
*Shiloh will own this region & contend strongly at state. Size matters.

Region 6
1. Rugby
2. MLS
3. Velva
4. Westhope
*Rugby is a top 3 team. No one else competes with them here.

Region 7
1. Bowman Co.
2. Hettinger
3. Dickinson Trinity
4. Beulah
*Bowman Co has the up & coming talent. Good coach too. Hettinger still has all state center & good coach

Region 8
1. Trenton
2. Kenmare
3. New Town
4. Parshall
*Trenton will be good. They return 4 of their top 5 kids. Excellent coaching. Kenmare returns 4 starters also.

Top Ten Teams
1. Grafton
2. Rugby
3. Shiloh Christian
4. Kindred
5. Langdon/Edmore/Munich
6. Central Cass
7. Trenton
8. Thompson
9. Four Winds
10. Bowman Co.

Pretty good list. I’ll make one here in the next couple days. Disagree on your assessment of Kindred. They play a decent out of region schedule. Be tough to make it much harder.

Not sure what this means...Kindred played Grafton, LaMoure-LM, Thompson, Shiloh, Oakes, MPCG and two MN AA teams during the season (CC & Kindred have several similar non-region opponents)

My mistake run. I misread the schedule of another team in their region. They certainly did play quality teams.

I'll try my hand here: I'm going a slightly different route only going to name the teams I think have a chance to win their Region and ranking them in order.

R1:
Kindred
Central Cass
Northern Cass

Don't see anyone in the Region touching these 3.

R2:
Grafton

They might not have a game within their region within 15 barring injuries but since they have to play someone in the championship game, I'll go with Midway-Minto

R3:
Linton
Carrington
Kidder

Linton should be the favorite talent-wise but that isn't always the determining factor.

R4:
Langdon
4-Winds

Could go either way

R5:
Shiloh
Grant County

Be nice to see GC get back to state

R6:
Rugby
Velva

Rugby has to play someone

R7:
Hettinger
Bowman
Trinity

Going with the best player

R8:
Trenton
Kenmare

Trenton returns to much

Top 10:
1 Grafton
2 Kindred
3 Central Cass
4 Rugby
5 Shiloh
6 Linton
7 Trenton
8 4 Winds
9 Grant County
10 Midway Minto

Region 1 - Kindred or Central Cass
Region 2 - Grafton
Region 3 - Linton-HMB
Region 4 - Langdon-Edmore-Munich
Region 5 - Grant County (upset pick)
Region 6 - Velva
Region 7 - Bowman County
Region 8 - Trenton

There will be four new region champions this year, in regions 3, 5, 6, & 7. It seems like the top 5 teams dominant the season, but come tournament time it's game on as anyone can beat anybody on any given night.

Region 8 will be interesting this year

District 15 will go either Parshall or Trenton for 1 and 2 seed 3 and 4 will be Mandaree and New Town

Trenton: going to be tough to replace Kaity Hove but return the St Pierre twins and Archer and Turcotte not having size will hurt Trenton but Bob always finds a way to make everything work

Parshall: returns one of the better guards in the region with Jayln Hall and the addition of Ivy Fox from New Town will help with the graduation of KK..parshall has size with Wynter Deane Ivy and Winter Old Rock

Mandaree: losing Cherish Johnson and Daysha Serdahl is big but they return Ashton Grady and a couple other kids who hustle and get after it they might suprise teams

New Town: coached well by Chuck Wells returns Zoe Fox the 2 Brunelle sisters Carter Charbonneau and Ella Steele could pull off a couple upsets

District 16 will be Kenmare winning it and Tioga stanley and Divide County rounding out the rest

Doesn't Trenton return a very tall girl? maybe like 6'2ish"

edit: just checked the state program. That girl graduated.

1. Grafton
2. Kindred
3. Rugby

My current thoughts on this:
1. All 8 regions are represented in this with regions 1 and 6 getting multiple spots (which they should).
2. Grafton is going to be very, very good.
3. Linton-HMB has the potential to be playing semi-final night.
4. Trenton has owned region 8 for a couple years, but I don't see them back at state, so Kenmare is probably the right "pick".
5. I don't necessarily agree that Beulah is the favorite in region 7 (they're in the top 3 IMO but I'd give the slight nod to Dickinson Trinity and Hettinger-Scranton over them), but by tournament time they might be. It will be very tough in "7" to stop Oase and Kubas who are 2 of the top 3 post players in the state.
6. LEM lost 2 very big pieces, it will be interesting to see how they replace Ronningen. What does FWM have back?
7. Region 5 is a toss up, I don't know who I would call the favorite.
8. Region 1 has two very solid teams, both are state title contenders. Their match-ups this year should be fun!
9. I don't know much about Velva, but I do know that Rugby has a very solid program with a lot of tournament experience. Can the Aggies overcome that?

Should be an exciting year!!
