Thompson at Park River

Postby ReadyToPlay » Thu Feb 04, 2016 4:07 pm

Thompson goes to Park River tonight.. Overby is unstoppable by a guard or a center--doesn't matter, and Marx is the glue and floor leader. Excellent supporting cast also. Prediction--Thompson by 10..

Overby is stoppable and PRFL did that tonight. Marx won the game for the Tommies. The Aggies missed too many at the end.

Thompson looked a little sluggish tonight. PRFL handled them very well defensively. They were able to contain Overby very well. Almost to the point where Overby looked frustrated. PRFL missed a number of easy shots that would have put Thompson away. I think the key was Marx and her aggressiveness towards the basket on both ends of the court. She drew a number of 3 point fouls that got Thompson in the bonus. PRFL had many opportunities to get the ball inside, but their lack of aggressiveness prevented them. These teams are evenly matched and we could be looking at a really good Region 2 championship game between them.

Great heavyweight fight. Both teams deserve their ranking. Congratulations! In addition, what a prediction in 2nd thread of jimthome| He was 99.99% perfect on the amount of points, the identical score, and winner. I knew PRFL could play along side Thompson......on another note if they cant beat them at home it will be even a tougher task on a neutral site.....good job to both teams!!

PRFL definitely contained Overby. I agree - she looked very frustrated. Like someone said in another thread, when she's on, she's on - when she's not, she's not. But by the bigs doubling up and collapsing on Overby, Marx was left one-on-one on the baseline toward the end of the game, which was the difference maker in the final minutes. THS was also starting to play some really nice defense down low late in the game to limit the opportunities from the paint.
It's pretty clear that the post game must be PRFL's bread and butter, which THS had a lot of trouble with throughout most of the game. PRFL does a nice job finishing, and getting defenders in foul trouble. PRFL also played great defense throughout the game, which took away THS' transition and, in turn, controlled the tempo of the game to their advantage. But in the end, Marx was the difference. She flat out carried her team in this one.
Two very talented teams, and a great atmosphere in the gym last night. So glad I made the trip. If all goes according to Hoyle, the final games of the region tournament will be awesome. Fun stuff.
