I think LaMoure is placed too high. They have to go the whole season without their big girl in the middle due to training violations. Don't get me wrong they are still going to be good, but that big inside presence is going to hurt them and potentially open up the door for other teams in Region 3. Region 3 is going to be interesting this year.

Seriously, who actually comes up with these polls? Park River beat both North Star and Grafton last year. I know PRFL lost two seniors, but give them some credit. Grafton also might be rated a little high. Yes they have everyone returning, but they lack the strength on the inside.

Not worth getting up-tight over the FIRST poll where there are FEW clear cut teams in the polls. Also, we are in 2015-16 season not last season (2014-15)...live in the present and give it a few more weeks...the poll will reflect better by midseason!

Here is a question for anyone to answer. I always have wondered who exactly does the voting for the basketball polls. I realize it is the sportscasters/writers in ND. Which sports writers/casters do the voting & how many people actually vote? What procedure do they follow? Run...do you know how this is done? Just curious.

well counting the votes..there were 15 voters this week.

1st Place vote is worth 10 points, 2nd = 9 pts, 3rd = 8 pts, etc; each sportswriter votes for 10 teams.

I think people will start to recognize FWM in a few weeks. They are going to surprise a lot of people this year.

#1 LLM and #2 Thompson play each other Dec. 30th in Hillsboro, should be a good indicator of how good each team is.

It was a close game, but I don't think it was as good as it could have been. I thought both teams were "off" their games a little bit, and the officiating really took away from the flow of the game for both teams. Lots and lots of fouls - both ways. I was surprised that LLM didn't use their speed and quickness more to their advantage and was surprised that Thompson didn't capitalize more on the physical mis-match.

Very talented ladies on both teams, but I think both squads have had better games.

I understand both teams have played better games. Wouldn't you guess that this is the first game either team has played vs a team that has a talent level even close to their ballpark?

There WERE lots and lots of fouls. The officials were just calling a foul a foul and it's up to the girls to adjust to what is called. Especially all the grabbing for the ball while an opponent is holding the ball, trying to get a jump ball out of it. The officials weren't taking away any of the physicality of the game, they were just trying to ensure that the girls kept their hands off each other. Unfortunately, they kept on pawing at the ball.

100% agree Hinsa.

I get ticked when people say things like "let the players decide the game on the floor". To me all that is saying is, "give the team that plays the most physical the advantage for pushing the limits of the rules".

Rules are part of the game aren't they?

I once had an official tell me that a call I was in his ear about was a foul. After he said it was a foul, my natural reaction was to ask why it wasn't called. He replied, "if I call it a foul, I'm going to have to call it a foul all night". My reply was to inform him that my players are not stupid. If you call it a foul, they will stop doing it. If they don't stop, they can join me on the bench.

Okay........
Both teams committed a substantial amount of fouls, which had a direct impact on the flow of the game.

Sorry to keep off topic, but if refs call the game like the rule book now states you will see either A. High scoring games with almost zero contact or B. Games with 60+ fouls.

Grafton may drop lower than that if PRFL gets 'em. They lost to EGF Sacred Heart earlier this week so they would have 2 losses, which I would think might drop them to 9 or 10 or even out of the poll to RV status.
