District 16 has always had an All-Tournament Team. This year they did not. From the information I gathered it seems the Hosting school, Trinity Christian, dropped the ball (pun intended) and chose not to arrange for a judging committee to vote. This is a bad deal for the Student/Athletes. I know for these District players it is a goal and an honor to be selected to the All-Tournament team. For the Seniors it had to be very disappointing, I’ve been going to this District Tournament for 13 years and this is the first year it they didn’t have the All-Tournament team. I understand if the decision was made by all the Athletic Directors but for the school to make that decision on their own is just plain wrong.

I feel this needs to be addressed. Bishop Ryan got 4 all disttrict players. They in all honestly had the 6 best players in the district, and one more that could have possibbly been all district. They beat their district opponents by an average of 55 in the regular season. They got 4 and Our Redeemers got 3, yet they beat Our Redeemers by 51 in the district title game. I repeat 51. It's a total joke they only got four. Their 3 or 4th leader scorer didn't get on there, probably just cause she comes off the bench. I'd be willing to bet she averages 12 a game though.

Unfortunatly politics too often come into play with the All District teams and the Sr. Player of the Year award. Coaches get mad at other coaches and take it out on the players, coaches don't want to recognize too many kids from one team, etc... Congrats to those who make it, 95% of the time they deserve it, but unfortunatly you always seem to have some deserving player left off for some reason or another.

I have not seen Minot Ryan play this year (and very few of the other teams in the district for that matter) so this is not aimed at any one in particular, just a general observation of things. Any time you make the argument that the 6th player on one team is better than the #1 or #2 player on another team, I always ask - What if they switched teams. Would #6 now shine on a lesser team or would their weaknesses be exposed with defenses focusing on them. Or what if you just took off the 4 best players from their team and now asked them to carry the load. Now they would have to start a game tied, instead of entering it with a 12 point lead. My point is that if you do any of these things - the entire dynamic would change and the whole deck of cards gets reshuffled. They may very well be one of the 12 best players in the District - or they may be a good player fortunate enough to be playing alongside some very, very good players. It's not an easy thing to speculate. To those that made it, congratulations. To those that did not, keep up the hard work and enjoy your team's success.
