Re: "QRF-like" Ranking and other rankings

Postby B-oldtimer » Tue Jan 29, 2013 1:18 pm

I know it takes some time for these rankings to start to stabilize but i think there is some improvement needed in these rankings at least it appears to me now with 2/3 of season done i think regional rankings of teams are off some. In Region 4 which i familar with right now Carrington with four losses is not at top of the region. It also is carring 10 point advantage over Benson county and Lakota AE which i think right now
should be tied at top region rankings. Also region 4 has 6 quality teams that can on given night beat each other so scoring is lowered because of that. These teams have done quite well outside their region playing
other regions. Also i think early losses and wins should not be weighted as much as recent wins and losses because generally teams improve and some improve much more over the season begin playing at levels far
above early seasons performances. The rating score carried by some of teams in other regions i think are way to high compared to teams in other regions where competition isn't as even because i find it hard to believe they have 10 to 15% advantage based on scoring rankings. I do think process has merit but i think
it needs some refinement and i also think highschool basketball has way more vairability than like college.
I guess this was my reaction based on what i have seen of the teams up here in Region 4 and Region 2.

1. Its still early some teams haven't played double-digit games.
2. Its a strength of victory type of ranking...RPI to come soon

How is your "RPI" calculated? I find CC and Carrington listed 1 & 2 with Bishop Ryan #3. In other posts I see Bishop Ryan with the 2nd leading scoring offense, 2nd in scoring defense, and they have beaten 3 reagion leaders in Shiloh, Thompson, and New Town and just beat a Region #2 in Velva. Just wondering what stats, etc. the "RPI" includes and how accurate this system is in predicting the best teams, etc.

Thanks a bunch

RPI is taken from KMAV.com's computer rankings page. RPI calculations are explained there.
