These are good ones....and something to point out, the majority of these old named schools only carried the one sport....No Track, No Foot Ball, No girls BBall, no VolleyBall, No Baseball or Wrestling.

Basketball....and we wonder why the Passion!!

Absolutely correct. Small towns, small schools, with the high school basketball teams more than just entertainment. They were kind of the tie that bound those communities together. The towns would nearly empty to follow their teams when they were playing on the road. Then when the teams had those successful years, winning the District tournament, going to Regionals, and maybe, just maybe, making it to State! Afterwards the "Welcome Home" cavalcade led by the fire engine from the local volunteer fire department that met the bus at the exit off the Interstate, even if the team didn't win a game at State. The celebration held in the school gymnasium. The town would remember and relive those years, those teams for decades.

In an early post it appeared that no one knew the colors of the "Butte Spartans". Their colors were black and orange, as were the colors of Bowdon that Butte beat for the state class 'C' title in 1952

This goes quite a ways back...
Perth Pirates....?....I 'think' I remember purple...but this goes way back to a point after their school had closed (merged with Bisbee) and I was in the Perth gym for a 4H event!
I've not seen Lansford Cubs...were they red and white?

Does anyone know the school colors of these closed schools:

Wimbledon Wildcats (before Wimbledon-Courtenay)
Columbus Cougars
Flaxton Raiders
Mapleton Falcons
Emmons Central Knights (Strasburg)
Elgin (Fighting or Flying) Dutchmen (before Elgin-New Leipzig)
Devils Lake St. Mary's Knights
New Leipzig Tigers
Richardton Rebels (before Richardton-Taylor)
Noonan Miners (done - thanks Bill232H)

Correct me on the mascot names too if I am wrong. I just need clarification on Elgin if they were the Fighting or Flying Dutchmen. Just trying to make my website a little better.

Thanks!

Have read reports from the '40s that Elgin was a 6-man football team and were the "Flying Dutchmen". Then, in the 50's, switched to 9-man and were the "Fighting Dutchmen". Perhaps someone else can verify.

Jud's primary color was green. I think green and white, but maybe green and gold. Played my first ever 5/6 grade game vs Jud. Only time I've ever been to that town.

Was this one school or 3 separate schools?

I saw Cass Valley North listed in a previous post, where was this school?
