I'll take Central Cass in this game.

Region 2 Title Game - (16-7) #1 (10) Thompson vs #3 Grafton (17-6)
My gut tells me Grafton will win this game.

Region 3 Title Game - (20-4) D6#1 Medina-Pingree-Buchanan vs D5#3 (RV) Ellendale (14-9)
I'll take Ellendale to win this game.

Region 4 Title Game - (17-7) #5 North Star vs #6 Warwick (18-6)
I'll take North Star to win this game.

Region 5 Title Game - (19-4) #1 (4) Shiloh Christian vs #2 (9) Garrison (20-3)
I think Bismarck Shiloh Christian wins this game.

Region 6 Title Game - (22-2) D12#1 (3) Bishop Ryan vs D12#2 Des Lacs-Burlington (18-6)
I think Minot Bishop Ryan wins.

Region 7 Title Game - (20-2) #1 (5) Bowman County vs #2 (8) Beulah (20-3)
I think Bowman will win this one, seems like they have it figured out in their last 6 quarters.

Region 8 Title Game - (18-4) D16#1 Powers Lake-Burke Central vs D16#2 Kenmare-Bowbells (14-10)
I'll take Powers Lake/BC to win this one.

I think if CC, Minot Ryan, Bismarck Shiloh and Bowman win they are the 1-4 seeds. If any of those top 4 lose then seeding will be very interesting. I could see a case being made for seeds for 13 of the 16 teams playing for titles pending the results of the games!

Since Ellendale is technically 21-2...I could see them getting ranked in the 5 seed area...

I don't foresee Region 8 getting a seed even with a bunch of upsets on Thursday.

3 "B" Schools guaranteed at State
2 "A" Schools guaranteed at State

Regions 5 & 7 pit "A" vs. "B"

Edit: Region 6 is technically "A" vs. "B"

Can CC, Thompson, Garrison, Bowman, and Kenmare pull off the double double girls/boys state tournament births? If all 5 accomplished that I would guess that hasn't been matched in any previous years.

How does Four Winds losing impact the state tournament? If you look at their scores vs. other teams still left, I worry it makes it so Central Cass walks through without getting pushed much

I would think that If CC and Minot Ryan make it, it would be CC as a 1 seed and Minot Ryan as a 2. CC is the deepest team I've seen in a few years but Minot Ryan has some really good size and talent as well. That would be an entertaining Championship game. Thompson and Shilo could make some noise as well with their size, talent and shooting ability. Always have respected how well coached that Thompson team is and has been throughout the years.
With the State being in Bismarck this year, should Shilo make it, they may have an advantage of sleeping in their own beds and not staying at a hotel.

I wouldn't just hand it to Central Cass...still have to get through a Kindred squad that played them tough during the season.

Shiloh, Bishop Ryan, Thompson or Grafton...all provide some very interesting matchups and are all solid squads. All it takes is a cold shooting night to derail any team; happens all the time

FW-M was built more on defense then on offense this year...they didn't give up many PPG but they weren't the offensive juggernaut that they've been in past years.

Yes I guess that is right...I was going off the original plan.

That was the most points Dickinson has allowed at home all year. The 2nd most points they've given up at home was 54 to Bismarck the first game of the season. These coaches know each other very well and this game will continue to add to this great rivalry.

Defense must have showed up "#2 (8) Beulah def #3 Dickinson Trinity 52-29"

Defense indeed! 11 points in the 1st half for Dickinson. Larson did a great job controlling the paint and Beulah did a nice job limiting Shobe's touches.

Tough night for 4Winds. They were not deep this year and not having Leftbear and M Deng was too much to overcome. Central Cass now the obvious favorite, but I think they'll be pushed tonight as well as on Friday and Saturday of the State Tournament. If they make it they'll be the 1 seed and should have an easier game to open up with. I feel like the winner of Region 2, Region 7, Minot, or Bismarck all have a decent chance at challenging Central Cass.

If Grafton shoots it like they did against HCV they will be a tough out. 11 3's in the first half. Impressive that HCV was able to get within 6 in the 2nd half after that 1st half 3 point barrage by Grafton.

Championship night predictions:

Region 1: Central Cass gets all they can handle from Kindred in a choppy and emotional rivalry game but pulls away late to get to 7.

Region 2: Grafton has another big first half but Thompson keeps it close and adjusts better at half time. Thompson gets the ball inside in the 2nd half and wins by 2.

Region 3: This turns into a low scoring defensive game in the first half and Medina finds a way to hold a lead throughout before a big offensive 2nd half by Ellendale allows them to win by 10.

Region 4: Close in the first half but North Star pulls away in the 3rd quarter and wins by 15 (big night for North Star inside gets it done)

Region 5: Shiloh cruises and wins by 10

Region 6: Bishop Ryan overcomes a late comeback attempt and wins by 5

Region 7: Beulah pulls the first "upset" of the night behind another great defensive effort winning by 4

Region 8: Powers Lake cruises relatively easily and wins by 15 to 20

Seeds end up: 1. Central Cass, 2. Bishop Ryan, 3. Shiloh, 4. Thompson, 5. Beulah

Region 1 - Two extremely well coached team. I seem to forget sometimes that CC is also a young team as many of their JR's have played big minutes in past years. Kindred is young, well coached and extremely talented - Bright futures. I think CC's depth gets them the "W" tonight in a competitive game.

Region 2 - Grafton's Baldwin (Jr) is one of the best guards in class B already. I think Thompson and that group will find a way to outlast a very good Grafton team. This might be the most entertaining game out of the 8 tonight. IMO

Region 3 - Don't know much about either team but think Ellendale will find a way to punch ticket to State

Region 4 - NorthStar is rolling - I like them by 10.

Region 5 - Shilo wins easily and with tourney being held in Bismarck, wouldn't surprise me to see them playing for a State Championship on Saturday.

Region 6 - Bishop Ryan is talented - I think they will win by 7 or more.

Region 7 - Beulah is a very well coached team and wins by 6

Region 8 - Powers Lake - One of the best guards in Class B - My vote for POY - He does it all! They win by 15 or more.

Seeds: CC, MBR, Shilo, Thompson

Prediction: CC and MBR in the Championship with MBR winning it all - Would be a very entertaining matchup to watch

Seeding Thoughts
#1 - Central Cass (23-0)
#2 - Beulah (20-4)
#3 - Shiloh Christian (20-4)
#4 - Des Lacs-Burlington (19-6)
#5 - Thompson (17-7)

Random Seeds - but likely the 3 largest crowd supports
Powers Lake-Burke Central (19-4)
Medina/Pingree-Buchanan (20-4)
Warwick (19-6)

Beulah beat Shiloh during season therefore I put Beulah #2
Shiloh should be #3 but could see them fall to #4 as DLB did beat Shiloh this year as well.

I can not believe DLB pulled off the win. I watched the game on YOuTube and it was a fun game throughout. It was DLBs time to finally beat Minot Ryan. Both teams played their hearts out..... Also Watched Thompson and Grafton.... Thompson never let Grafton shooters get going and owned the Spoilers. CC and Kindred games was hard to watch. No pace to the game and both teams were very tight. Kindred came out and played Defense and CC could not make a Free throw to save their life. This should have been a 12 point game but Kindred hung in there and had a chance to win at the end with a couple big shots that would not fall. Also watched the Powers Lake and Kenmare/Bowbells game. Good game for 3 quarters but then PL turned in on and it was over in a blink of the eye.

defensewinsgames must have insider info! :)

No real difference in being the 2 or 3 seed, but I don't see how you could seed Bismarck higher than Beulah. Same records. Beulah won the head to head game. Beulah's schedule was rated as more difficult. I think the coaches rankings should be made public. Again for this situation is doesn't matter, but there are years when things have looked questionable to me. If the coaches know their rankings would be published you might see differennt results.

usually it goes against the private schools though not for them...it's a wash to me and my guess is the vote was very tight (Highest & Lowest Ranking get thrown out...and then the average of the 5 remaining are used to seed). A lot of media members were in agreeance that Shiloh was #2 last night on Twitter...could have played a role in the votes being sent in. Shiloh also finished the best (end of season results) whereas a majority of Shiloh's losses occurred at the beginning of 2023.

Shiloh Losses
1/6: Oak Grove 71-68
1/7: Rapid City Christian, SD 84-81 (Class A SD team - lost in SODAK 16 Round)
1/13: Beulah 51-46
2/14: Des Lacs-Burlington 58-49

Beulah Losses
12/28: Rugby 53-46
2/11: Bowman County 70-55
2/16: Bishop Ryan 82-72
2/25: Four Winds-Minnewaukan 61-42

Also true...we know the state will never seed all 8 though. However, it's not too far off on this one...PL-BC would be my #6 then toss up between MPB & Warwick (both are such great stories though)

Medina/Pingree-Buchanan was 0-20 in 2018-2019 now they are 21-4 and heading to State
Medina & P-B have been together for 9 seasons (72 wins)...they have 36 of those wins over past two seasons.

Warwick was 3-14 in 2020-2021 now they are 19-6 and heading to State for the 3rd time in school history (1996 & 1989: both 8th place finishes).
