Ellendale’s record is actually 11-8…it got updated this morning after they had to forfeit 7 games. NDHSAA website has the proof

Any idea why they had to forfeit those 7 games?

Ineligible player
It is a little harder to motivate kids I guess because they’ve been pampered so much. We’re in the trophy generation, give ‘em a trophy for 23rd place, make ‘em feel good. Make mom and dad feel good.” Tom Izzo, Michigan State Basketball

An open enrolled kid that didn't sit out his allotted time. Big oversight by the coaches and admin.

Didn't change much...only one district game was affected...still a very good team and a R3 favorite.

Every game that was forfeited was games that were in hand for Ellendale...unfortunate but it's been dealt with and their record reflects the error...but the team is still in essence an 18-1 team.

No one said they weren't a good team and yes still the favorite in Region 3, but its something that should've never happened. Admin, AD, coach, all dropped the ball on this. This shouldn't happen with all the rules in place.

Life moves on...they are still #1 in their district, team to beat in District & Region AND if they do make it to state...people & coaches now know the situation and it shouldn't affect their seeding as those truly all were wins. From past experiences, I see this more in the public schools then the private schools. I'm not here to blame anyone for this...just glad things are cleared up and that others now know. Record 11-8, True Record 18-1...in the end, only thing to do now is take care of business in the postseason and not worry about who is to blame for this.

So they play an illegal player and they forfeit wins that he played in Varsity games... But the player could have played in the JV games correct? So Why is the Coach not being punished for breaking the rules? Should he not have to serve a suspension?

My assumption is that the kid plays JV and dressed Varsity but the 180 sit out rule was overlooked as the player probably came after 9th grade and doesn't live in city limits (someone else stated open enrolled student).

They are forfeiting games and NDHSAA will give a reprimand; if they haven't done so already, outside of the forfeits. General public won't know the actual reprimand until after the next board meeting.

My guess is all has been dealt with...now to move forward and play the games in front of them.

Been minute since I've posted on this board.

The bylaw violation was discovered and reported to the NDHSAA by the Ellendale AD. The penalty for this violation is a forfeiture of any game where the violation occurred. There were 7 games in question.

I can confirm that the student in question is a JV player who only played in games that were out of hand. There was no material benefit gained by Ellendale as a result of the violation.

The Ellendale AD has taken full responsibility for this issue.

For those that have made assumptions that this was a purposeful violation or have cast dispersions against the coach and/or administration, you clearly do not know the true character of these individuals. I assure you that their character is above reproach and I truly have no dog in this fight.

Best of luck to all this post season.
We plan and God laughs.

Just because they are good and loyal guys does not mean they should not be punished for their mistakes. Any college program that has violations like that... the coach is the first one to go. Mistakes happen... people get caught doing something wrong... they have a price to pay. I believe they have a great program going but.... they made a mistake... I don't know what the price is... 7 games of taking losses.... fine but what happens to the guys that made the mistakes... nothing? It does not matter that the kid did not help them at all...not the point...
I hope I see them in State and will be cheering for them.

Already stated above…the NDHSAA will hand out the reprimands…but public won’t and don’t need to know about it until later; Let it go…it’s been dealt with by the proper people. I only brought this up here to mention the record change…I regret it now because of reactions by users like you.

You ‘attack’ the coaches and demand repercussions and yet you’ll be cheering for them to get to state…a bit contradicting there
