Enderlin and Kindred both will have a great deal of talent and elite size. I agree they should be the clear front runners. To me, both of those teams this year were sub-par defensively in comparison to their potential. The team that figures it out the best on the defensive end will win the region next year.

Predictions

1. Enderlin - Talent wise should be the odds on favorite to win it all
2. Kindred- Will be athletic, might struggle at the G spot and to score at times
3. NC- Need to fill some big shoes inside
4. OG- Always tough
5. CC-Lost a bunch, could be tough by the end of the year

6. Lisbon
7. Sargent County
8. Wyndmere-Lindgerwood
9. Richland
10. Tri-State
11. Maple Valley
12. Hankinson
It is a little harder to motivate kids I guess because they’ve been pampered so much. We’re in the trophy generation, give ‘em a trophy for 23rd place, make ‘em feel good. Make mom and dad feel good.” Tom Izzo, Michigan State Basketball

Central Cass has 246 students from 9-12...far cry from the 325 needed to move up.

Sounds like it's time for another vote on the 3-class proposal.

The highest four year group is K-3 which is 307. Now their enrollment will continue to go up cause the town is growing and access from other area towns...but they aren't quite to the concern-level of hitting and exceeding 325.

One more thing to think about: Those DPI numbers for Central Cass don't include Mapleton Elementary, and many of those kids feed into CC in high school. Mapleton built the new school a couple of years ago and numbers are booming. Central Cass might be over 325 enrollment in the not too distant future because of it.

I know it's not necessarily Region 1 related, but also interesting to me is that Valley City projects to be under 325 in about 4 years and should stay there. New Town out west could be over 325 in 7-8 years.

Region 1 player of the year prediction is between Jace Crockett, Preston Bohnenstingl and Noah Swenson. I've seen these boys play several times, all very good players. If Preston Bohnenstingl had a stronger supporting cast, I think you would hear his name more. Noah Swenson is a solid player that plays bigger than his 6 4 or 6'5 frame.

Prediction for Region 1

1. Should be Enderlin but somehow they will get into their own way.
2. Kindred - Athletic group. Success will depend on guard play.
3. Oak Grove - Sleeper this year. The past couple of years, they have lacked consistent outside shooting and solid point guard play. Key player for OG will Martinson - You know Swenson will show up but he will need someone to knock down outside shots in order to free up space in the middle.
4. Central Cass
5. Northern Cass
6. Wyndmere- Lidgerwood
7. Lisbon
8. Sargent County
9. Tri-State
10. Maple Valley
11. Richland
12. Hankinson

Its hard for me to call OG a sleeper, when have they ever not been good. People must look at their record but have no idea the schedule they play. When was the last time they have not played semi-final night of the Region? They are not a sleeper, a sleeper team is someone that might sneak up on someone, when was the last time OG did that ? I think a couple of those teams for the 20/21 season would be WL, and SC. As far as Senior goes I believe its a race between Crockett, Swensen and Keller.

To answer your underlined statement - this year; before that: 2008 (Steve Carnal's final year coaching)
2005 they didn't make it to regions (lost challenge game to Central Cass...CC went to State that year)

Agreed...not a sleeper - lots of underclassmen played last year; the 10-seed year was the last year they probably would have been considered a sleeper...or 2007 when they made another odd run to Region title
