B-oldtimer wrote:Region 4 tournament I am thinking there will be one or two upsets before this tournament is finished and I would be surprised if there wasn't. In the first round I think three of the games have potential for upset not that I believe it will happen in all three. ST. John game against DP could be interesting in that ST. John always seems to have tough shooting night at Devils Lake and DP usually plays quite well on that floor. The LEM game VS BC will be hard fought game and BC usually good tournament team and Langdon seems to struggle playing at Devils Lake. Finally the New Rockford vs Dunseith and here I just think that again if anyone game is off the other team could easily win this game. Then we come to next day match ups then we again could see upsets in either brackets because of different match ups if they occur. All in all should be very entertaining tournament to watch.

I was going to post about this same thing yesterday, but didn't get to it. Other than the FWM game, I felt the other three games could go either way and there would be at least one upset. Dunseith over NRS would have been my last pick as an upset, though.

Region 1 Picks: Champ Prediction [Kindred]
#1 (8) Kindred (17-4) vs. #4 Central Cass (15-7)
I think Central Cass pushes Kindred to its limit but kindred gets it done
#3 Richland (16-5) vs. #7 Tri-State (13-9)
As much as I would like tri-state, I feel Richland will be too much to handle

Region 2 Picks: Champ Prediction [Hatton - Northwood]
#1 (2) Hatton-Northwood (20-2) vs. #5 Cavalier (15-8)
Hatton-Northwood keeps rolling
#2 (7) Hillsboro-Central Valley (18-4) vs. #6 Grafton (17-6)
A little upset here, but Grafton only lost to HCV by 4 on HCV's home court a few weeks back

Region 3 Picks: Champ Prediction [Ellendale]
D5-1 Ellendale (16-7) vs. D5-3 Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier (18-4)
Ellendale in a close one
D6-1 Strasburg/Zeeland (17-5) vs. D5-2 Oakes (15-8)
I don't know anything about either team

Region 4 Picks: Champ Prediction [Langdon/Edmore/Munich] (Originally I had NRS)
D7-1 (1) Four Winds-Minnewaukan (21-1) vs. D8-2 (RV) Langdon/Edmore/Munich (17-5)
Could be the best game of the day, UPSET here, I think landgon squeaks one out
D8-1 (6) St. John (19-3) vs. D8-3 Dunseith (13-10)
Should be a fun game, Watch out for Dunseith if they jump out early. Assuming ST John has everyone today ill take St John
Region 5 Picks: Champ Prediction [Shiloh Christian]
D9-1 (10) Shiloh Christian (16-6) vs. D9-3 New Salem-Almont (16-7)
New Salem will need to make Shiloh play ugly. Also to note it looked like Shiloh was without 2 starters yesterday, ultimately the big court should play to Shiloh's speed

D9-2 Flasher (15-7) vs. D9-4 Standing Rock (7-15)
Flasher by 20+

Region 6 Picks: Champ Prediction [Rugby]
D11-1 (3) Rugby (20-2) vs. D11-3 Nedrose (13-10)
Rugby by 25+
D12-1 Our Redeemer's (18-5) vs. D11-2 Drake-Anamoose (17-6)
ORCS in a low scoring game

Region 7 Picks: Champ Prediction [Dickinson Trinity]
#1 (4) Beulah (19-3) vs. #4 Hazen (17-5)
Hazen in a shootout
#2 (9) Dickinson Trinity (19-3) vs. #3 Bowman County (17-5)
DT is always consistent

Region 8 Picks: Champ Prediction [New Town]
D15-1 New Town (17-6) vs. D15-3 White Shield (11-10)
Fun game High Scoring
D16-1 Powers Lake (18-4) vs. D15-2 North Shore-Plaza (18-5)
Ill take Powers Lake just due to experience

Tri-State (F-C-T): their win last night was their FIRST Region Tournament victory since 1982!!! They went to State that year as Fairmount and placed 5th!

Would have been the case baring unfortunate injuries........with that said I don't think the refs would have let a close one go to Black an Orange...it would have had to be 8 to 10 point diff to keep them out of it

turn the Heat up in the Betty!!!...wasn't that cold when the girls played...cold makes it easier to pull muscles..

well R2 got what they wanted

I knew this explanation was coming from that group of fans...only lost because of the injury and the refs. The temperature of the arena being a factor is a new one though! That is the easiest way to make yourself feel better and the best way to take credit away from the other team. Couldn't it be possible that a team that already beat you in the regular season would beat you again even if at full strength?...I agree the injury not cool and is hard to overcome but for the love of all that is holy just let it be at we lost, they won. No need to blame officials, injuries, arena temp, etc. A loss is a loss and no matter why it was lost complaining about external factors doesn't change the outcome. Ya your right Region 2 did want to see the two best teams make the regional championship...I think that is what every region ever has wanted. Cavalier played a good game. Everyone knows about the injury. Hatton won. End of story. Some people really like sour grapes...I have never been a huge fan.

LMAO, I literally spit my coffee out, thanks for the great laugh. Who would've thought that turning the heat up is a game changer. On a serious note though, what is the optimal temperature to make one be at their highest performance level. Make Gyms Warm Again!

I'm not sure what the optimal temperature is medically. I do know that if the Betty was too cold we need to cancel all football games after August....Those poor athletes are likely to have their muscles implode when the temperature gets to freezing or below.

It was a form of speech based around the perspective of someone from that viewpoint. I think it is quite clear I do not subscribe to that view. I was not identifying myself as a member of the Cavalier faithful...I was pointing out the lack of a need to justify/assign blame/make excuses/take away from the accomplishment of others.

is it Cavalier Accomplished nothing......because if they did, it doesn't take away from anything or any other teams accomplishments it just adds to their resume.....
and If they are full strength I believe they win, just like had they made a couple free throws the first time around they would have won, just like the night they played HCV they won....oh but thats right, HCV wasn't playing well then and it was Home court advantage for Cav and would that be taking away from Cavs accomplishments? or is it a select few on here Hate Cavalier because they are the only one who have never co-oped and are always hunting.
they were far from a farce this season or last season even though they were treated like that especially on here and even by some right from home........sorta like this year with the Cluchee boy...extremely talented and good...but constantly hounded by the refs for how he played the game which was no different than anybody else out there....and then a ref whispering to another player during a Regional game (getting in his head so he has other things to worry about then the victory) to calm down Cluchee or else, when he was doing nothing nobody else does....I've seen countless over reactions of a call from player after player after player just this season and and If a Cavalier player reacts? oh no its going to be a "T".....its a fricken Joke!
somebody (school administration from another school) said that its because of their Parent is how a player gets treated on the court....could you imagine the repercussions towards those officials had that been proven true? when I actually believe its true....so don't blow smoke outta your A$$ at me and how I react....I'm far from dumb when it comes to discrimination, unjust and prejudice

and please don't classify me as a Cavalier Faithful, because thats scrutiny too, which once again proves you may have the Cavalier ties

I'm not sure how to even respond to this huge rant. Clearly you feel very strongly about this and are personally invested. I will address it this way. You can go look if you like. I have had Cavalier in my top 4 or 5 in the region all year. I said things like it wouldn't surprise me if Cavalier beat HCV or Hatton. This isn't a "I hate Cavalier" issue. It is an issue with the justification and excuses. Finishing in the top 4 of the region is an accomplishment for any team. Especially when...like you said...they have never co-oped. I don't think people are predjudice, unjust, discriminate against Cavalier. This attitude and all of the things you ranted about probably don't help your cause though. I'm not even going to address the ref issue. I know though it is not uncommon for an official to tell coaches to captains to talk to a player about settling down. Dont know the situation so dont know who was talked to...Anyway, I didn't classify you as a Cavalier faithful...I said I wasn't one. You seem to be very invested in this...perhaps like a parent or family of team members...so I don't think much of what I say will get through, you made decisions/formulated opinions long ago. My final thoughts then I'm done with this whole thing...Cavalier had a good season this group of seniors accomplished a lot. I engaged in this discussion because I think the excuse making belittles the kids hard work...Cavalier earned their success...it didn't come from gym temperature, refs, or things.

Far from a Rant... as you read stay calm, because as I wrote, I'm totally chill
it is what it is...even 8th seeds "work hard, hard" it belittles nothing.....more players, more bench, good Coach added in with some true Basketball skill equals a chance to win and keep winning for any team

Region 1: Central Cass has to keep up with their girls team. Their student section too much for Richland.
Region 2: Hatton-Northwood surprises some folks here with the win.
Region 3: E-K-M handily.
Region 4: St. John is just too little. 4 Winds by 20
Region 5: Shiloh owns region 5 in boys & girls. Shiloh. Again.
Region 6: Rugby easily by 20
Region 7: Beulah will have to grind it out for a 7pt win at Dickinson Trinity & their perennial home court advantage.
Region 8: North Shore-Plaza goes to state for first time ever in B. By 10-15pts.

State Seeds: 1) 4 winds 2) Hatton-Northwood 3) Rugby 4) Beulah 5) Shiloh

Region 7: Beulah will have to grind it out for a 7pt win at Dickinson Trinity & their perennial home court advantage.
Region 8: North Shore-Plaza goes to state for first time ever in B. By 10-15pts.

State Seeds: 1) 4 winds 2) Hatton-Northwood 3) Rugby 4) Beulah 5) Shiloh

I agree with you winners except I'm going with Richland to return from Region 1. I'm rooting hard for NS-P as well! Also pulling for H-N in Region 2. How many times have Northwood or Hatton been to state? I'm thinking not too many.

Region 2: Hatton-Northwood surprises some folks here with the win.
Region 3: E-K-M handily.
Region 4: St. John is just too little. 4 Winds by 20
