Powers Lake vs. New Town Powers Lake -- a week to prepare & at full strength. NT too inconsistent
Stanley vs. Parshall Parshall will put a chaser on Stanley's shooter; Parshall wins
Mandaree vs. Kenmare Mandaree -- but better play smart because this is a game they will win--bigger
game is Tuesday (stay fresh & NOT get caught up running up score) use deeper
rotation--coach needs to be smart
Ray vs. White Shield This will be the best game. White Shield struggles at tourney time. Ray has
something to prove. No idea who wins but it will be close.

That Ray v White Shield game was fun to watch. To score almost 80 points and lose by 10 in a back-and-forth game, wow! Mandaree vs. White Shield round 3 tomorrow night will be fun. Come on White Shield!

And I'll take Powers Lake over Stanley by 10+.

I watched last night as well and enjoyed the game. I'm pulling for WS to make state. Would be fun to see a team with an iron six that play all the minutes.

I enjoyed that game too. 1st time I have seen either team play this year, quite the offensive display by both teams. White Shield has a couple of young men that are fun to watch. Quick question - is the Events Center at Four Bears as nice in person as it looks on TV?

Powers Lake vs. Stanley -- Powers Lake has been the one team to give Stanley all kinds of fits the past two years in District 16. They are better coached, they have an inside outside game, & they are as healthy as they have been. Sure they want to pound Stanley this year. For a change, Stanley has no pressure on them & can just play. Their big man & shooter will have to play lights out to compete. And they might. This game has been the game Powers Lake has struggled in the past two years. I just think they break through this year. In a big way.

White Shield vs. Mandaree -- White Shield sure has lost alot of players for various reasons since the start of the season. Crazy to see a team that had at one time 12+ kids out now down to 6. Odd. They each won one game this year vs. each other. Home team won each time. This can go either way BUT it should be entertaining. Grady & Chase vs. Jesse White & Co. The team that actually tries to play defense with 5 guys will probably win. When they play one another, seems defense goes out the window. First one to 70 pts wins. You would think Mandaree would focus on White & really try to deny him the ball up & down the floor making him work the entire game. That would get them the W in itself as White does everything for white shield. Sure do not see many coaches try that anymore. But if anything--it will be the best game of the two & interesting to watch. Toss up.

Yes it is! Not really a bad seat in the house. I enjoyed watching the girls region tournament there this year. The facilities are very accommodating.

What a game between Mandaree and White Shield last night! I really thought White Shield had it, up 2 with a minute left and ball possession. But overtime was all Mandaree and they won by 10. One of the most fun games I've ever watched, back-and-forth all game.

From what I saw yesterday, I'm taking Mandaree in the championship by 8. I think the 3rd place game will be close, because White Shield will likely have problems bouncing back from that tough loss, whereas Stanley I think will come a little more ready to play.

Do White Shield's numbers look like they'll have a larger roster next year? This is the first time I've ever been able to see them play (thanks BEK) and was impressed. Fox, Benson, and Bearstail are pretty big losses, but having Jessie White back is a pretty good start.

Wish I could have been able to see the first game to make a prediction. I remember seeing Mandaree at the B in 2010, and I'd love to see them back! Powers Lake would be a great story too, though. Could be their first time in any state tournament since 1954 (C), or first time in the B since 39! I'm looking forward to watching!

Next year looks very similar to this year- 6 likely varsity level starters. I think they could be as good this year, but that remains to be seen.

White Shield will be in the thick of it next year in Region 8. There just will not be many strong teams in either district 15 or 16. If you have a good player or two--next year you will contend.

Powers Lake vs. Mandaree for Region 8 Title. I think most people will pick Mandaree because of their scoring prowess & fairly wide open style of offensive play. I see Powers Lake having the more balanced team. They have an inside punch. They also can do damage from the perimeter. They score in different ways. Neither team is what I call a lock down defensive team--so that will be a wash -- with the exception of the Mandaree team players who just are stand still shooters--they wont get many of those. Powers Lake coaching staff is solid. Mandaree does things a little unconventional coaching wise--but it seems to be working out for them so far. They will have to manage that one time when Powers Lake is on the verge of putting them away in the 4th--and use their timeouts to get a quality shot. Didn't do that last night & almost cost them the game in regulation. They were lucky to get the basket they did to tie it--lucky bounce on rebound to Fox who was in right spot.

Powers Lake will handle the pressure fairly easily & probably convert it for lay ups often enough to make a difference. Van Berkom is a tough customer to deal with. Grady & Chase are good players. I think Powers Lake's team play, discipline, & coaching will be just enough for them to get to the State B---first time in 80 years.

Mandaree is to win--they will have to have both Grady & Chase play big. This is the game where their teammates will likely not be reliable scorers from perimeter as Powers Lake will man them up. Those open 3's will not be there.

Should be a fairly good game for 3 quarters. I think Powers Lake wins be at least 10 though led by Nordloff inside & Van Berkom getting to the basket. Would be a good story--small town gets to state B first time in 80 years. That would be pretty cool.

It was a great game but whoever was announcing the awards after the game was not good. His attempts at humor were way off base (asking the COY what tribe he was from and encouraging parents to let their kids run around the event center while they went to the casino?) He basically tried everything he could to make the awards ceremonies about him and not the awards. Just my opinion.

100% agree with your comments. Spot on. Aired on state wide TV. To some he may be funny--to others not so much. Plenty more iffy comments he made trying to make himself the show & be funny. Stick to the awards, the tournament, & the kids. 4 Bears Event Center is a nice facility--but focus on being professional when hosting these events -- especially when it is your first time getting the opportunity to do so. I guarantee his comments about the coach were not said at any other regional basketball tournament award ceremony in ND (or maybe the US) this year.

Would it still be funny if a white announcer had asked a Native American coach what tribe he was from? To me that showed complete disrespect for the coach who won the COY award.

I think you're making a mountain out of molehill here. He MC'd our district tournament in White Shield too, and I can't think of anything he's said I'd qualify as "disrespectful". It's humor.

I agree. He MC’d the girls region games and was a very good announcer. Nothing he said was disrespectful towards anyone.
