My updated top 5
1: Mandaree
2: White Shield
3: New Town
4: Ray
5: Powers Lake
I think WS might have a chance at the end of year they are very quick and are streaky shooters.
So if there 3s are dropping they could be dangerous.
Along with the other 3 i have been posting imo

Mandaree barely beat a nonregion team that will finish in bottom 2 of their own district and they are the top team of this region?

Mandaree split games with WS. Already beat NT and Powers Lake. The win you are referring to must be the win against Warwick. I watched the game and I don't think Mandaree played well at all. It could have been a 20 point win easily instead of the 9 point win you call "barely".

Region 8 has notoriously been the ‘down’ region but they still have had quality teams at the State Tournament:
2007 - Parshall (State Champs)
2008 - Watford City
2010 - Mandaree (May have gotten 5th but they had an explosive team and that consolation game was fun all-around)
2011 - New Town
2013 - Trenton
Stanley teams last two years as well...I always felt they should have done better at State

Looks like an exciting region where anything can happen.

Kenmare 2016
Honestly, what I've been learning about District 16 and Region 8 sports is that there are teams that are favored to win a game/tournament but that come tournament time, it can be anyone's game.

My list above included Top 4 finishers except the Mandaree team. Kenmare was a little weak IMO in 2016 but had a better squad in 2017 that lost to Stanley in Region Final.

I could tell within the first 2-3 minutes of that first game we played in state that we were going to struggle. Shots that normally would go in, ball handling that was done with ease...it was all off.
That region game...I have no words as I thought (a lot of people thought) it would be a much closer match than it was.

Not a good game WS won by the score of 71 to 58 and it wasn’t that close. WS was definitely the better team tonight

I agree with this. I was impressed by White Shield having 4 players over 10 points and another at 7. They can really score from anywhere.

The atmosphere of the game was great, can't wait to see what districts will be like in White Shield this year!

Region 8 has been very interesting this year. I see White Shield as the favorite right now, but it wouldn't surprise me if Mandaree or Powers Lake end up on top. It seems like Stanley, New Town, Kenmare and Parshall have all taken a step back. Ray has an impressive record, but hasn't played a very difficult schedule. Tournament time will be wild up here in the northwest.

District 15 if I'm correct will be like this
1 Mandaree vs 8 Alexander
4 NSP vs 5 Trenton
2 White Shield vs 7 WTC
3 New Town vs Parshall

Nothing has changed as my top 5 right now with White Shield still on top the transfer from Standing Rock has really helped them probably there best overall player.

Big change with Mandaree as the 3 seed after having to forfeit three district matches and having a district loss to White Shield. Why did they have to forfeit? Ineligible players?

Ineligible Player...but White Shield had their 1st two games also changed to Forfeits (the MT games...so no effect to District standing...just overall).

How do you consistently rate new town high this season? Who have they beat? White shield and Mandaree are tough. Parshall can be at times very good but can’t seem to finish games. Ray is tough. Good defense and shooters. Stanley I believe is 13-6 and beat new town by double digits. (Lost a strange transfer kid to new town). Powers lake is tough but not as tough as they should have been this year. Kids hurt or not they took a step back. I still think white shield and Mandaree are ones to beat. Ray is the dark horse

With districts starting this weekend here is my updated top five

1: Mandaree the best player in region 8 in Jesse Chase and 4 other players that know there roles.
2: Powers Lake 2nd best player in region in Kyle they should roll through district 16
3: White Shield have the best starting five in region no bench will hurt them playing back to back
4: Ray good team weak schedule could hurt them in tourney
5: New Town I have said it from the start they will be going to state if guards improve and they
have in my mind.
Stanley would be the only other team that would crack the top 5
Parshall started out hot and will need some luck to win a game in districts after giving Killdeer there only win of season so far. Imo

In your opinion, who are the 4 moving through in each District?

District 15 mandaree, new town, white shield and trenton
District 16 ray, powers lake, stanley and the winner of first round game between Burke and kenmare i will go with Burke that one can go either way the one that loses that game will not have a chance against the loser of Stanley and powers lake game

Mandaree vs. New Town tonight- who do you got? Honestly, I think New Town looked better than Mandaree last night. Mandaree had a real trouble making any shots, and both teams played a pretty tough defense all game.

Stanley vs. Powers Lake tonight- who do you got? I'd say Powers Lake by 10+, but anything can happen in the playoffs.

I will say new town by 10 if they stay out of foul trouble
Right now Parshall is giving White Shield all they can handle 38 to 34 parshall is up end of 3rd
White Shield is missing the transfer from standing rock and you can see the difference he makes
Cause during the regular season I think WS won by 30 or more

Powers Lake is the team to beat in Region 8. They play with poise, well coached, and have an inside & outside game. Just hard for me to see anyone from District 15 beating them in the regional. Ray will give them some trouble in the district 16 championship game because of their defense. But Powers Lake should prevail by 15.

White Shield has plenty of talent offensively--they just do not play consistently defensively & phyiscal teams give them trouble. Prone to foul trouble & have a hard time dealing with stressful situations--like lots of kids do. Parshall just outworked them. Wanted it way more & played hungry. White Shield was flat. They seem to struggle at tournament time. Parshall was 9-11 too and really limited offensively. Two guys who can score really. Great win for them. Tough loss for white shield on their home floor.

Mandaree similar to white shield. 2 man team offensively. Grady is their best player as he is good off the dribble, can shoot, & sets up his teammates. Chase is erratic. Trenton had him locked down yesterday. And they don't play lights out defense. He will have to play better vs New Town. Seen him play well plenty of times--also seen him struggle for odd reasons over the years too. When Grady & Chase play well, Mandaree is tough. When one doesn't, it will be a struggle.

New Town guard play is pretty shaky. They have some talent though with their other guys. Just have to navigate the press. In the end I just think Powers Lake is a complete team that is better rounded than anyone else in region 8 with few weak spots. Everyone else's game has some big flaws that can be exploited. But....anyone can be beaten on any given night. Just never know.

Mandaree had one of the more dominating district championship game performances I can remember. They will be on a mission to beat Kenmare after losing to them 98-96 on a buzzer-beater in the first round of the Region 8 tournament last year. They are my pick to go to state this year with Ray and Powers Lake right behind them. White Shield vs. Ray will be an interesting 1st round matchup. Here are my predictions.

Quarterfinals
Powers Lake over New Town
Stanley over Parshall
Mandaree over Kenmare
Ray over White Shield

Semifinals
Powers Lake over Stanley
Mandaree over Ray

3rd place - Ray over Stanley
Championship - Mandaree over Powers Lake
