Region 8 2018-19 predictions

Postby Jack8 » Tue Nov 27, 2018 8:23 am

The Hoopster has the following predictions for region 8
1: Powers Lake
2: Mandaree
3: White Shield
4: Divide County
5: Stanley
6: North Shore Plaza
7: Kenmare
8: Parshall

My predictions for this year
1: New Town
2: Powers Lake
3: Mandaree
4: Kenmare
5: White Shield
6: Stanley
7: North Shore Plaza
8: Ray

It will be a battle of the top 3 for a trip to state but I believe New Town will have the edge once there guards get some experience.
New Towns first game is against Powers Lake so we will see only first game of year but good early test for both teams. Imo
What are other people's thoughts ?

I actually think powers lake is head and shoulders above everyone. I think they are a top team in the entire state. Pretty much bring back their entire team.
It is a little harder to motivate kids I guess because they’ve been pampered so much. We’re in the trophy generation, give ‘em a trophy for 23rd place, make ‘em feel good. Make mom and dad feel good.” Tom Izzo, Michigan State Basketball

Quick question, the Hoopster doesn't have New Town in their top 8 and you have them No. 1. Is there a typo/mistake some where along the line?

I spent 5 minutes comparing the 2 lists figuring I was missing something.

1. Powerslake
2.-4. Newtown, white shield, mandaree(any order u want)

After that idk? District 15 NSP, Parshal, Trenton are all pretty close.. I would say tcs is crazy behind them either

District 16 I would say probably Stanley is next and then Kenmare. Don’t know much about Ray this year?

No mistake I believe it will be between New Town,Powers Lake and Mandaree that will be going to state out of region 8 this year. New Town has 2 starters back from last year along with a transfer from Stanley , Rodrick I believe is his name along with 5 really fast guards that will raise havoc on there press. I know PL returns about everyone and MHS returns 2 very good players. Powers Lake at NewTown tomorrow night should be a good game IMO

Once Powers Lake gets their best player back (Van Berkom kid - broken hand I think), they will definitely be the best team in region 8. They are well coached, play team basketball, & should be hungry (finished 3rd in Region 8 tourney the last two years). If White Shield can get their kids to play with discipline & believe in their ability -- they actually have the next best team. Mandaree can score but will have to play defense. New Town will have size but not sure if their guard play will be good enough when tourney time gets here.

1. Powers Lake
2. White Shield
3. New Town
4. Mandaree
5. Stanley
6. Kenmare
7. North Shore Plaza

Powers Lake is down three more due to injuries. One is out for sure but the other two should be back (as well Van Berkom) by mid January.

Quick question: Are these late season football injuries or early season bb injuries? That is a terrible string of bad luck. Hope they all get healthy and can make a late season run.
Also, seems Mandaree has a nice string of wins going. Are they surprising people in Region 8?

Two are football injuries (broken hand and torn ACL), one had shoulder surgery (I believe he missed football as well) and the other I am not positive when that injury happened.

No Mandaree is not surprising anybody in region 8 they have probably the best player in region 8 in Jesse chase and the rest know there roles.
The surprise in my mind is Parshall at 3-1 I didn’t think they would be as good as they have been after losing there best returning player from last year to transfer.

As of right now my top five would be
1: Mandaree
2: White Shield
3: Parshall
4: Powerslake
5: New Town

Nothing has changed as far as my thinking of who is coming out of this region like I have been saying New Town, Powers Lake or Mandaree will be going to state out of this region Mandaree has to develop its bench a little bit.
Powers Lake has to get healthy most importantly Kyle
And New Towns guards have to step up which I believe they will by seasons end.

I was at the Powers Lake v. White Shield game in White Shield last night. Very interesting game to watch. People on the boards here are saying that Powers Lake is down a few starters, and White Shield was as well, for various reasons. WS had 5 starters and one 7th grade JV player on the bench. Powers Lake was rotating players in and out all game, and WS only did when their 5th guy got 4 fouls before halftime, and then fouled out later in the 4 quarter. Final was 68-57 White Shield. If these teams meet up in the region tournament with full squads ready to go, that's going to be quite a game to watch. White Shield and Mandaree play in White Shield next week, so that'll be another game to watch for sure.

Fun game in White Shield tonight vs. Mandaree. Both teams had their best players on the court. Very fast paced, yet so few fouls from each team. White Shield led I believe the whole game and won 76-67. I have to say though, the only thing that kept Mandaree alive was Jesse Chase. They continually fed him the ball all 4th quarter, and he made so many tough shots.

Fun tidbit: I don't believe either team missed a single free throw all game.

if van berkom was playing the other night, seems it didnt matter for PL whether they had him or not cuz i think mandaree beat them right? Not a follower of either team but was curious.....meanwhile.......white shield had quietly gone to 10-1 now and has avenged thier only loss to mandaree the other night...now lets see if they make at least honorable mention in the next weeks class b boys poll...
