Correct! Mayville-Portland beat Hillsboro once in 1973, twice in 1974, once in 1977 and then beat Larimore once in 1978.

Maybe this was discussed before but who was the last #1 seed in a district to miss regionals? I don’t know the answer but would venture to guess the 2003 St. John team? Any more recent than that?

Older, but Napoleon didn't make it '99. I think they actually lost their first 2 and went home.

Larimore in about 2013 or 14 was 17-2 and ranked in the top 10 in state - lost 2 of 3 in the district and went home.

Dating back to the start of the 2-Class system in 1963-64 there have been seven Class B champions that were not ranked in the final poll. How many can you name?

Milnor in 2013 and Bisbee-Egeland in 1989 are two of them.

Two of the remaining five are within the last 30 years, the other three prior to 1989.

Going out on a limb and saying Standing Rock in 98 and Parshall in 2007. I know SR lost 3 times in 98 so assume they were probably ranked and can't remember anything about Parshall's season so that is just a shot in the dark.

Before 1989 I would have no clue.

Standing Rock is correct. Standing Rock in 1998, Milnor in 2013 and Bisbee-Egeland in 1989 are the only three teams to win the state title without receiving votes in the final poll.

Parshall was tied for 9th in the final poll of 2007.

We are missing four teams. One is from the 2000's, two from the 1970's and one from the 1960's.

2001 - North Border??

Wow, I'm surprised NB wasn't ranked. I remember them each having good teams (NB and Walhalla) in 2000 then combining and winning it all I figured they must have been ranked at the end of that season.

Before North Border-Wallhala and North Border-Pembina co-op'ed what were they called?

Walhalla Eagles
NB Bandits

Also surprised they were not ranked. Their first game of the year was against Cando ( who they would beat in the championship) and they got spanked, but I’m pretty sure that was their only loss of the year

North Border is the correct answer.

Still looking for two teams from the 70's and one from the 60's.

Yep - North Border received votes, but wasn't ranked. The top Region 2 team going into the region tournament was Griggs Country Central, ranked #2 in the final poll.

Who beat GCC in both the district and region semifinals that season?

North Border finished 26-2 that year. They were ranked 9th with a 16-1 record in mid-February but lost 74-62 to Fordville-Lankin and dropped out of the last couple of polls. NB started the season off ranked 7th but quickly dropped out after the 28-point loss to Cando.

NB-Pembina finished 2nd in the region in 2000 (losing on a buzzer beater to Park River) and Walhalla 3rd. Would have been a very good team had they been combined.

1965 Kenmare: finished the season 24-4 and was receiving votes in the final poll.

1971 Wyndmere: this one is strange because Wyndmere was undefeated, finishing 27-0. For some reason they only listed the top 5 teams in the poll that year. Wyndmere was one of 21 teams receiving votes!

1972 Mayville-Portland: lost 6 regular season games but was receiving votes in the final poll.
