Good Fans Bad Fans

Season is halfway over. Let's talk about fans....the good, the bad, the ugly. And go!

Powers Lake fans are good if you are for Powers Lake. Bad and Ugly for the visitors. Shiloh Christian fans are really good.

I have never liked when fans sit behind the opposing teams bench (when it is not part of their "visitor" or "home" seating) and scream the whole game as well as try to listen to huddles during timeouts and attempt to yell out their plays. Seems childish for adults to do.

Can't stand it when a fan can't even cheer for their home team. Is that person even considered a FAN??? They sit there all through the game with their arms crossed like they don't even really want to be there. Then why come? And when you see them a day later all they want to talk about is how the Coach, Players, other fans did. It's absolutely ridiculous!! OK My rant is over.

I go to games and sit there with my arms crossed and probably look like I do not want to be there. I love being at games and like to watch. Some basketball fans are not vocal.

Do you portray this when you are in your home town? That's what I was referring to. If so, to each his own but I can't understand how someone can LOVE being at games and not cheer.

Yes. I am from Mandan and live in Bismarck. I am sitting in the front row of a game in Bismarck in which 3 of my 8th graders are playing and I have not cheered. It is halftime. I will later be attending a game in Mandan and I will not cheer. There are few things I would rather be doing with my time than watching basketball.

I'm for the atmosphere of the 80's. Nobody cared about if you hurt feeling of the poor parent or kid that couldn't take it. I cant stand what region 1 has created. I am all about what W-L fans did at Hank-WL game Friday night. It created a great atmosphere. Maybe there superintendent should explain to the rest of the region what they can and can't do, cause he the one that created the stupid yellow card thing. His fans, players, etc., know how far they can go, cause there everyday. The game was played in Hank, but WL created the atmosphere like it was there home court. I'm jealous!

Balla,
You mention you have way better things to do other than watch your 8th graders play BB, and sit there with your arms crossed. I guess that must mean you would rather spend your time watching tape of every team in the state for your traveling teams, like you posted in a earlier post. I don't want a person who isn't energetic and showing enthusiasm to be coaching my kids. Balla, you rub me wrong. We have totally different perspectives, which makes for interesting conversation. Time to meet up and have lunch. When you comin to Fargo next. Would love to visit, but you didn't take me up on my last offer so I'm sure you wont again.

It is great that I rub you wrong saying that there are few things I would rather be doing with my time than watching basketball.

I must have missed your reply inviting me on that offer as I sent you a personal message on December 25, 2016 and you did not respond to it.

It is 10:44 pm where I am. I am clipping film up on HUDL for my 7th grade A1 team at the middle school that I am coaching at. Find another 7th grade basketball coach who is going to put that much time in. Good luck.

Also, I won't be in Fargo until mid to late February at the earliest, as I want to watch Austin and Jordan play. What a horrible program president I am with no enthusiasm that I will spend 2.5 hours in a car 1 way to watch some of my guys play. Wow, that is just terrible.

Wen, I don't think you read his post, or at least understand it. He said, there are few things that I would rather do. That means there are very few things that he would like to do other than watch a game.

It happens wem :)
I really enjoy a good ruckus crowd. But I am kind of like Balla in that I enjoy the game, enough that I don't feel the need to cheer. I attend enough games where I am not pulling for either team. I just want to be entertained and enjoy the "show". I get that the experience is likely different if you are only going to games where you have a vested interest like a relative playing or you are back from college watching your old teammates playing. Personally I think I would get worn out if if had to emotionally pull hard for a team in every game I watched.

I remember when I was young cheering for the Vikings. If they lost on Sunday, often it would bring me down for a few days. Life is to short. If you are playing, coaching, or officiating, put 100% into the game. But, when it is over, reflect on it, learn from it and move on.

Fans are like a box of Chocolates

"you never know what you are going to get"

-passionate fan
-family fan
-neutral fan
-true spectator
-rowdy fan
-hometown fan
-hometown fan that doesn't care if hometown wins (yes they're out there in abundance)
-student body fan (some care some don't)

bottom line....they all paid to get in, they'll most likely eat your taco in a bag or skittles and popcorn and go home
if the world needs a Cloned fan then I would say pass a bill in the State legislature and they can all come in sit down and hug one another, say nothing shake hands get up and leave

the one thing I have noticed that never used to be near as common is an
-arrogant fan

I've never witnessed anything like this, but if I did, I would miss the rest of the game after being escorted from the gym for confronting whoever did something so despicable.

Since you are pretty specific, I'm guessing this has happened recently and that saddens me greatly.

Put me in the "passionate" category! I feel for the kids that are playing. I try (sometimes not hard enough) to not let the refs get to me but their will always be calls that the whole crowd simultaneously reacts to. I am a hometown fan also but when it comes to the state tourney or even regionals (if we aren't in them)I have cheered for another team vocally. As far as yelling out at another kid from the opposing side that's taking it too far. And to be racial at a high school B-ball game? That's a low I won't go to.

I would flip crap if I heard anything like this at a game. Would not be able to hold my tongue and we would both be ejected from the game.
