Was very surprised to see how many teams schedule games outside of their own region. Definitely a change from football, where you never really know how your region stacks up until the playoffs.

You can tell which teams like to travel or play away from their region. I think it's funny just how limited Rugby's scope was, especially when you compare it to Berthold's or 4 winds.

Not 100% sure what you are saying here, but Rugby did play Beulah, Four Winds, and North Star, I would say that is pretty good schedule, and Berthold played Trinity and Parshall, but nobody else tough outside there region. 4 Winds played a real tough schedule.

I'd say 3 or 4 of the toughest schedules for teams at State are:
Four Winds-Minnewaukan
Oak Grove
Rugby
Shiloh Christian

Rugby was primarily Regions 4 & 6 but solid teams. FW-M, OG & Shiloh expanded their schedules and played teams from across the state (and in OG's case a few solid MN games).

I'm just saying when you compare it to the other teams in the state that succeed alot, it's just strange how close they like to keep their games.

The coaches (in myth) got together and decided to use RPI to rank the teams. Final 64 make the tourney. To determine brackets, they count 1,2,3,4 and start over. Following are the matchups for the ND RPI Final 64. Who makes the Final 4? Just a little fun during basketballs greatest week.

The first region sure looks like the toughest road. I see the #1s in each of the other 3 regions going to the "Final Four". 1-9 make the first region very deep with the potential for upsets. Surprised LLM would be an 8.

Yes, theoretically, the brackets would be in order from toughest to easiest just because I went down the line to number them. Should have inverted every other one.

Should have snaked it for better balance.

Also a slight note...I believe OG & Hettinger-Scranton's RPI would be better if out-of-state games were included.

I still do things like this too...the 'what if' games when converting into different styles of tourneys is fun.

One year (2013 I believe) a friend and I created a 64-team bracket and set it up similar to an NCAA tournament with sites and stuff. It was to give the possibility for say 2 or 3 teams from one Region to make it to state if they earned it.

We had two options for the Elite Eight.
1. Re-Seed when those teams qualified, or...
2. Play it straight out.

Proud to say I am a ND high school (basketball especially) sports nerd :) LOL

Region 4 looks good. Only thing is that I believe in 2005 it was the first year of New Rockford-Sheyenne's consolidation.

2004 to 2012 Berthold and Bishop Ryan made every appearence from region 6 except 1. Maybe that's why people don't hate Rugby that much.

Thought I would put this here if anybody wants some reference for the other hot topic going on. I know not every enrollment number is exact, but they should be pretty close for reference sake. Didn't want to clutter up the other topic. Only did it for the last 15 years.

Why have none of the private school enrollments changed in the last 15 years? Don't have any hidden meaning behind my question, just curious as a lot of the other schools have some change listed over the years.

Also, I'm assuming Lisbon is 202 and not 102 and Williston Trinity is 50 the 2nd time and not 150?

Using 150 enrollment as a cutoff for "big" Bs, 52 of the 90 (58%) of the qualifiers would fall in this category in the last 15 years. That includes region 3 which had none, and don't know if they would even have had any schools in the region over 150 enrollment in these years. That would change now with Oakes and Carrington in their region.

Never listed in the public enrollment documents that I have used over the years. Wasn't trying to hide anything, just had problems finding them over the years, so put in the only numbers I could find, usually from this site.

Got ya, I thought maybe you were taking the enrollment from the state tournament programs over the years.

Ran thosese numbers last year. Some things have changed, but in essence:

Big B's were estimated at 174+. They made up 24% and attended state @ 28% rate.
Private/Parochial made up 6% of schools and attended @ 26% rate.
Rest made up about 70% and attended at 46%.

The demographics for the state B are fairly predictable. Of the 8 regions, 3 of them do not really have a big school (3, 4, 8 ). Carrington (1st year in 3) is largest at 170. Four Winds/Minn. in 4 at 210. New Town in 8 at 196. That means there is generally going to be a minimum of 38% small schools every year. Of the remaining 5 regions, one small school is generally going to represent one of those regions, bringing the total to 50%. Of the remaining 4 regions, chances are 2 bigger schools and 2 parochial schools will be representing.

It would be interesting to know how many kids in each district are open-enrolled from another district. Not all districts offer open enrollment and some that do severely restrict eligibility.

Speaking for Bishop Ryan, I would guess the 04 days the enrollment was around the 200ish mark. Nowadays, it's around 130ish. So, that gives you an idea where they were throughout those 15 years on each respective appearance.
