1. I would have no problem with their honor song. That would be more public, and would force the crowd to "participate" much the same way Central Cass shut down prayer at Shanley. I can see the argument, but I stress that I don't agree with the argument. If they wanted an honor song, fine with me.
2. Understand that, after this, the NDHSAA will also take Minot OR's religious rights just like they took Shanley's. This will be the last time we see this at state.

Sorry, sometimes I jump ahead to next week's newspaper article.

I get it. Thank
Another thing I'm waiting to see in the paper as a letter to the editor is why was there only security standing on the steps in the FW student section starting semi final night and not with the other two teams?

Kwoods-- The reason there was security on the 4winds sides was to keep the stairway open, it wasn't needed on the other side bc 4winds had great fan support.

For ORCS
I don't mind the question, but there is a lot of negativity in your guess.
All the ORCS starters have played their whole basketball career together.
The four seniors started organized ball together in 4th grade. Steede's family moved to Minot from MN before his freshman year.
So they have been in the ORCS school system their whole careers? I had heard that 4 of them used to go to Minot public schools. If they haven't then my guess would be way off
Howie, there are only 3 of the varsity players that came to ORCS from the Minot Public system as 9th graders, three current sophomores (Abel, Mau, Wetzel).
Of the four seniors that have started every game this season, all of them have played on the Knights' teams since they were in elementary school. Van Lith, Reiten, and Talley started playing together on the Knights' teams in 3rd grade. Demme joined them when he picked up the game in 5th grade. Demme and Talley are homeschooled, but have never played on any other school's team but the Knights since elementary school.
Steede's father moved from MN to Minot for work before his 9th-grade season. Steede has played for the Knights ever since, except that he red-shirted a year due to health issues.
Of the other players, Leyton Lang, also a sophomore, has played on the Knights his entire school career, as have Taylor Strand and Brett Nunziato (both juniors).
So your insinuation, at least regarding ORCS, is nearly baseless.
How can you red shirt in high school?
If Demme and Talley are home schooled why did they choose OR to play basketball at?

RE: redshirting, that may not be the most appropriate term, because it probably doesn't work the way it works in college, but since he had a season he couldn't play at all due to health issues, I believe he may have the opportunity to apply before next season to play one more year, as long as he has not reached a certain age. I don't know all the rules, and I don't even know if he will apply for that last year.
Re: Demme and Talley, I have written about it somewhat before. Talley and Demme both have been involved in the Knights' teams since elementary school (at the rec league level, then at the Jr. High level) before high school ball. They both come from families that care a great deal about education from a Christian perspective. Talley's father actually coached a few of their elementary-age Knights teams, as early as 3rd grade I believe. The Talleys knew Demme, and they invited him to play on the team starting in 5th grade, because they knew he was a kid who could use an opportunity like that at the time. Demme knew next to nothing about the game of basketball in 5th grade, by which time most kids have already been attending skills camps for years.
By 8th grade, both boys had gotten a little bit of varsity time on the ORCS team, Talley more than Demme, and ORCS's team was still not good, though improving. It was natural for both players to want to continue playing with the friends they had already played together with for the previous 4-6 years.
I know for a fact that Talley was offered a spot at Ryan to play HS ball, but the Talleys declined, most likely for the reasons I have outlined above.
As an extra little fun fact, the five seniors from this year's ORCS team (VanLith, Reiten, Talley, Demme, and Brock Borud) were all part of that 5th-grade rec league team that went undefeated and won that rec league championship. It was obvious at the time that it was a special group, and Demme's improvements over the years just added to the already strong group that it was from early on.
Kwoods wrote:If he was offered a spot at Ryan that should be reported it is illegal to recruit. That just shows that when people complain about SOME (I used the word some) of these schools recruit that just proves it right there.
