Coaching Changes

Heard the other day that the Northern Cass coach and the Richland coach were both let go. Doesn't make much sense to me. Lyson took them to the state tournament a year ago, and had a competitive team last year. Nordick was the Region 1 COTY at Richland this past season, and the Colts should be a heavy favorite to compete for the Region title this year. Who knows the real reasons?

What other turnover has there been since last season?

As far as Lyson and NC, there were issues in the last 1 or 2 months with the timing of him completing his required masters/doctorate coursework at UND and UND transmitting the info to the Dept. of Pub. Inst. that affected his principal credentials, resulting in him not being re-offered the principal position. He resigned his HS math teaching position, along with coaching, and is taking his talents elsewhere. He now has the credentials/certifications needed for a HS principal.

This is the first I've heard about Richland and Nordick.

Sounds like JD Conklin is heading up Northern Cass boys this year.

Really? What was his deal with leaving Richland girls mid-year last year?

“I teach in West Fargo, so the last two years 30 miles to Richland one way became too much,” Conklin said. “That’s the main reason. It was the long drives. It just added up and my teaching job had to come first.”

So, 30 miles out to Northern Cass is better than 30 miles to Richland?

The miles are roughly the same, but lets not forget Northern Cass is in the middle of the country with very little traffic while downtown Colfax is basically bumper to bumper from 3:30-6:30.

My guess is that he wants to coach boys instead of girls. Northern Cass is going to be down for a few years here...but they'll rebuild.

The Combined Statistical Area population for Colfax is 261,000+ and growing, so the traffic is only going to get worse. :D

Let's just say there's more to this story than the miles......

JD has some health issues, and had to back out. Craig Kretchman is probably going to head things up for Northern Cass boys.

Kretchman's oldest son is a senior at MSUM this year. No game/time conflicts?

Kretchman is listed as the head coach on the Northern Cass website.

I can confirm that he took the position.
