Looks pretty good to me and will be nice to even out the districts/regions.

I think it looks pretty good with what they have to work with. Totally agree with making the districts and regions more even. The geographic make up of North Dakota makes things difficult. For example, District 5 north to south is very big but not sure what could be done about it. I think more coops will need to happen for some teams to compete.

Yeah I thought the district had some larger travel distances but thought many other districts travel was cut down actually

If this passes what happens to the region out west that was going to the super region format?

edit: that starts this year? the super region

I would assume they stick with it since its all the same teams just adding mandaree

The districts layout look reasonable but some of the districts I think will already loose some teams to future coops that likely to come and super region tournaments may become necessary for some regions.

wow, didn't even notice Carrington was in Region 3. As a region 3 native that just seems weird, more so than when Shiloh was in the region.

There is a fair amount of opposition to this plan from schools, mostly about increased travel. The NDHSAA is planning to make a decision at a meeting on 9-17. Their best decision may be to wait and further study this.

I don't see how people expect travel to not increase. There are fewer teams now than 5 years ago = more travel to games. I'm sure most of the opposition comes from the two regions that still had 16 teams because it will be new to them, but the regions that have 11-12 teams should be used to it.

One thing I like about the proposed plan from a District 5 perspective is the increased level of competition it would bring.

what good would it do to study this further? It doesn't seem very complicated to me.

On another note I was told R2 had filed the paperwork to begin using super regionals. I would assume in 14-15.

They could study how a team benefits from being forced to drop games of 50-60 miles from their schedule to add new district opponents of 110-130 miles and how that will be good for kids, fans, or the game.

Only region 2 and 7 will be playing everyone in their region, so travel really shouldn't increase that much. Yes some teams are getting moved to new regions with more travel to teams in the region, but with 19 teams on the schedule there's no reason team can't play closer non region games

I read that the proposal passed, but did it pass as proposed or were there any changes in the regions?

With the change of adding Mandaree to region 7 that will add another long road trip for a lot of teams with the super region format. In my opinion adding Grant County to region 7 (old district 13) would have made a lot more sense.

Here is a map that will kind of show every team/location from the proposal. This will show the distance from one another.

Would be really interesting to see what that map look liked in the 32 district days or even 15-20 years ago

District 12 is going to get crowded. The South Prairie and Nedrose school districts south and southeast of Minot voted to build high schools. Minot will have Ryan, Our Redeemers, Nedrose, South Prairie, Surrey, and Des Lacs-Burlington right on its doorstep.

District 8 has already lost Munich Starkweather and I have heard rumblings of Rolla and Rolette to begin cooping for more sports. If this happens could be down to 5 teams in District 8. I think they should have left Benson County in District 8.

If co-ops have been dissolving or combining here lately...I believe there is still time for them to tweek the 'proposal'.

I'd think Rugby would be the logical fit...Dunsieth and Harvey are both R4...The new Minot B schools will keep R6 full...No reason not to move Rugby to R4

That would be a logical move if the realigned the districts again, but I have heard from coaches in the region that if/when Region 4 drops to 12 teams they will just go to a super region format same as they have done for vball now.
