I realize that Ryan has moved down to class B this year, but with what they have done year in and year out in the Class A tournament, I'm surprised to see that DesLacs has beaten them 3 times. Is DesLacs just that good--or did Ryan lose some key players from last year?

Is this the year that the west finally breaks through, or will it be Central Cass winning it for the east? Kindred and Thompson are quite good as well, but CC seemed to be playing at a higher level than anyone else in the region tourney.

I saw a tweet that said West Fargo has 20 consecutive state titles. SB wasn't sanctioned until 2009, so how did they determine a state champ before that time (or was the tweeter misinformed?)

They won the unsanctioned state tournament whatever it would be...12(?) years.

Is there any website that has stats for softball? The EDC and WDA had basketball stats during the season for all teams (some better than others at keeping the stats up-to-date), but I'm not finding any stat pages. WDA has individual game box scores, but that's pretty tedious to go through. It would be nice to have some idea of which teams use multiple starters, who has the power hitters, etc., both for Class A and Class B.

In response to Vikingman about DLB beating Ryan.
Ryan has a new inexperienced coach and it shows with the hitting struggles at the plate and fundamental defense and game situations. He has one of the best athlete in the state sitting bench on defense who has been a Varsity starter since 8th grade. Over half the runs given up in Regional tournament were unearned. This team has gone backward compared to last year. Just what I have observed by watching this team the last few years.

Don’t always trust NFHS Network...I’ve had issues with two state tournaments so far this year with poor or no streaming!

DLB only beats #4 Northern Cass by 2, and Thompson stomps Heart River (18-1) by 10. Looks like the west has NOT caught up with the east.

DL-B pitcher throws 1-hitter though..we'll see what type of game DL-B & Thompson have tomorrow to determine if any 'catch up' has been made. We'll also have to wait and see on Kindred-Richland vs. Bishop Ryan...who knows. My guess is the West has 'slightly' caught up but the east still reigns supreme in Class B Softball

I'm not surprised that Northern Cass was shutout, but for DL-B to only score 2 IS surprising.

The West has definitely caught up to the East in Class A Softball...3 out of 4 EDC teams fall today including West Fargo...Sheyenne pulled off upset to start tournament and be only EDC team in semifinals.

Becca Thompson has had a monster post season for Valley City. I think she's homered in every region game and state game. Today she homered in her first at bat. Second at bat she gets intentionally walked and the next batter up hits a grand slam!

Championship game was round 1 (Minot vs VC).

Also, I know it saves time, but...the single elimination brackets they use in softball and basketball are ridiculous.

Leaves ya wondering.

2nd Place - 1 loss
3rd Place - 1 loss
4th Place - 2 losses
5th place - 1 loss

I've never been to the baseball stadium at Jamestown, but seeing some Twitter photos would indicate that that it has the softball stadium beat by quite a bit. Wasn't impressed at all with the SB facility at all. Not much seating available. I was hoping no one would have to slide in to home plate because it looked dangerous--the right-handed batters box looked to be a couple of inches lower than the plate in some areas, with lots of very loose sand.

I was part of the grounds crew at the state B tourney in Jamestown. I just live watching these girls compete and their towns that support them. The weather went from hot to downright windy and cold yesterday. But that’s North Dakota for ya

Lack of seating? We had brought bleachers in to put in outfield just for this event. Yes the baseball stadium has more seating. Almost all do compared to softball. Have you been to other softball fields? The seating at Trapper Field in Jamestown is much better than most in the state. As far as the batters box goes that’s how they all are basically. As a grounds crew member we fill them in after every game only to have the batters dig in for their stance resulting in hole in the batters box. I’m proud to say we got many compliments on how the field was especially after Thursday and Friday nights rain. We were there at 6 in the morning pumping out water and getting the field ready to play on for the first games at 11 in the morning. But like they say it’s impossible to please everyone

I was only comparing Jamestown's softball grandstands seating with the baseball facility -- small and completely open to the elements. Also, no lights on the softball field. Last year one of the games went late and had the game gone extra innings, it would have been a problem.

The only softball fields I've been to are Central Cass, Mickelson field, and Trapper. I don't doubt that most all softball facilities rate well below their nearby baseball counterparts. I was surprised to see the small seating capacity at Central Cass' new field, although someone told me they thought more seating was going to be added.

As for the home plate situation, it probably is the norm for a non-turf field -- that doesn't make it a safe situation. (my HS baseball batters box had the same problem -- 45 years ago).

I would hope that as more turf fields are getting installed, that the tournaments will be moved to those venues.
