hoops4lyf40 wrote:Well actually, per Coach Milner, Twilight was spot on 5 kilometers. The times ran that day, have been hit in several other races by many of those runners. But you are absolutely right, these polls don’t mean anything, the regional/state meet results do. Still the question remains, are coaches not looking at Meet results or athletic.net? How are they gauging these ranks? You’ve done an amazing job, posting results from around the state. It’s a shame coaches aren’t using it is as a resource.

If that were true, then these polls would be flawed... up until the last few weeks that is. I’m just trying to understand how these ranks come about. Like I’ve said, it doesn’t seem coaches are looking at Meet results.
If Wrigley was 6th for Class B, then great, rank him 6th for Class B. But I have a feeling if Fossum or anyone else for that matter, won today, White would still rank #1, and I’m trying to understand why.
But I’ll give... State Meet results are what matter. Not a coaches poll. Just trying to figure it out

How can a poll have flaw?
PMPT wrote:I think White still should be considered to be the #1 runner in class b boys xc simply based on last year and this year. He rises to the occasion at the bigger meets. I get the feeling he is a good ,"bad weather" runner which could work to his advantage if the present weather trends continue.

No more defending the poll by me...this week's Class A girls poll is baffling; missing two girls who ran very well at Perham (1 of which ran in the 18:00s and has the 2nd best time in the State of ND) and beat #9 ranked athlete on a fast but legit distanced course.

Now, and in the last few weeks, absolutely. No arguing that. My point was, up until that point he hadn’t been the fastest runner in class B. This poll is intended to be current rankings based off current times, not end of season predictions. I have no problem with the B boys rankings as they stand currently (minus Red Fox... should be lower). Just not for the first few polls of the season. The first few weeks, there were several faster runners.

The class A boys rankings look off as well. Unless coaches are figuring in injuries, Yoder should still be 1 if you ask me.
