I see Patrick Wrigley (Shiloh) has the 4th fastest time in the State. Not sure how these polls have him at 4th in just Class B. Robert White (NewTown) doesn’t look like the clear favorite, as these polls might suggest.

These polls... lol. Do coaches even look at Meet results, or athletic.net?!

1st of all: Dragon Twilight meet's 5K was a little short...16:11 is impressive but if a race was short then it's hard to gauge the actual time

2nd of all: Wrigley hasn't gone H2H with many of these athletes this year; he'll go H2H with a few of the athletes on Saturday.

3rd of all: Don't get worked up over a poll...what matters most is the next four weeks...ending with State in Minot.

Well actually, per Coach Milner, Twilight was spot on 5 kilometers. The times ran that day, have been hit in several other races by many of those runners. But you are absolutely right, these polls don’t mean anything, the regional/state meet results do. Still the question remains, are coaches not looking at Meet results or athletic.net? How are they gauging these ranks? You’ve done an amazing job, posting results from around the state. It’s a shame coaches aren’t using it is as a resource.

Coaches have their reasons for voting...just like media has for the other polls in the state.

I see Wrigley was 6th out of Class B athletes today so the poll seems fairly accurate if you'd ask me.

The polls have had Robert White as #1 since season opener, although the poll is supposed to be reflective of current times and standings, not end of year prediction. Correct?

If that were true, then these polls would be flawed... up until the last few weeks that is. I’m just trying to understand how these ranks come about. Like I’ve said, it doesn’t seem coaches are looking at Meet results.

If Wrigley was 6th for Class B, then great, rank him 6th for Class B. But I have a feeling if Fossum or anyone else for that matter, won today, White would still rank #1, and I’m trying to understand why.

But I’ll give... State Meet results are what matter. Not a coaches poll. Just trying to figure it out

Nothing against White or New Town, he is an amazing competitor and very likely will win the state meet. Just don’t understand the polls having him at 1 when his times haven’t been 1 until lately.

If Fossum would have beat White today he would have moved #1...he's had a great two week stretch with the Griak performance (that course is ridiculously tough with rolling hills) last weekend. Don't ever try to figure out a poll...the end result is most important (also not all times are on Athletic.net...some schools go to random meets and we never see the results). All coaches have access to the Grand Forks XC page where 90% of the meets in the State are posted.

I don’t believe that Fossum would move to #1 in these polls, but that’s just my opinion on these polls ha. Fossum has been running great all season, and as of late. His Twilight time (Auggie) was early season.

But anyway, fair is fair, Polls have flaws. I’ll do my best to just roll with their choices. Some athletes put a lot of stock into it, unfortunately. I do appreciate the work you do loading these results, and the results across the state. The ND Preps page has always been my go to source of results.

I think White still should be considered to be the #1 runner in class b boys xc simply based on last year and this year. He rises to the occasion at the bigger meets. I get the feeling he is a good ,"bad weather" runner which could work to his advantage if the present weather trends continue.

How can a poll have flaw?

No more defending the poll by me...this week's Class A girls poll is baffling; missing two girls who ran very well at Perham (1 of which ran in the 18:00s and has the 2nd best time in the State of ND) and beat #9 ranked athlete on a fast but legit distanced course.

Now, and in the last few weeks, absolutely. No arguing that. My point was, up until that point he hadn’t been the fastest runner in class B. This poll is intended to be current rankings based off current times, not end of season predictions. I have no problem with the B boys rankings as they stand currently (minus Red Fox... should be lower). Just not for the first few polls of the season. The first few weeks, there were several faster runners.

The class A boys rankings look off as well. Unless coaches are figuring in injuries, Yoder should still be 1 if you ask me.

It starting to sound you like you have something against the new town runners just be happy your runner is in the top ten in class B the Shiloh kid is exactly were he should be ranked. White from New Town is the best in class B enjoy the rest of season and good luck to all team's at region and state.

I don't know what the votes are based on, but it certainly isn't any kind of research or analysis. The polls are lacking this season to say the least. Big surprises in store!

If either Yoder or Korsmo isn't ranked #1 in class A boys than the poll is goofy. With the exception of this year's Griak - I believe one of the two of them have won every race they have been in the last 2 years. Because they didn't run in the mud in Minot (probably a pretty smart coaching move) you drop them to 4 and 5? Does anyone really believe they are the 4th and 5th best runners in ND right now? Maybe I am mis-understanding what the poll is supposed to be indicating.
