I believe 3 of their top 5 didn't even start the race and their top runner didn't finish the race. Once they are all healthy, they will be very hard/impossible to beat.

Down goes Williston again. Each of the last two races they've run with only 5 runners. At Mandan, they put 7 in the top 39. They have the sick bug or injury bug or something? I don't know, but they've been missing their top runner at the last two meets, and not having that guaranteed top ten hurts.

Worth noting also that Beulah/Hazen hosted a meet two days ago and Bowman Co. took down Beulah/Hazen and almost beat Rugby. BC had a much tighter 1-5 spread, which means at a bigger meet (like state for example), BC has a better chance over Rugby.

Williston has the injury bug but should be ready for WDA/State. If they are healthy, state is theirs to lose. If they are not 100% it will be a very tight/interesting race!!

I think that the weekly Coaches poll in Class B for both Girls and Boys isn't accounting for alot of the runners in the western part of the state....

How is Thompson rated in the top 5 in boys? Their team isn't even winning very many meets?

The Miller kid from Bowman, Patrick Wrigley at Shiloh, possibly Zachmeier in Rugby.

Are not the top 10 consistently running faster times then the boys out west. I have no stake in with any of them in the top ten just looking at times.

This poll could be an ever-changing revolving door...especially for those from 8-10. It's just a poll though...means nothing. Bulletin-board material for those just outside of it. A few named previously have at least been in the poll...just not in it right now.

Side Note: 25-35 coaches vote each week in the polls.

Class A has 22 teams I think.
Class B has roughly 50 teams

Some coaches vote...some don't

Like others, I have no dog in this fight but …

On Saturday, on the state meet course, both Wrigley and Zachmeier got beat by Nolfe (#10), Denault (#8), Smith (#7) and the three New Town boys. They didn't beat any ranked kids.

Miller did win a meet in Watford City but didn't beat any ranked runners. The last time he saw a ranked runner was in Beulah where he lost to Nolfe (and Zachmeier).

Rankings are relatively worthless … just for discussion. That being said, I think the boys are about right.

You are correct, rankings are useless, but they are still alot of fun! Plus, it gives of you an idea of who to be watching for at the meets.

Absolutely! I think the B Boys may be the most exciting race of the day in late Oct.

They all should be pretty good races! Anything can happen on any given day, but all of the #1 ranked runners have to be pretty clear favorites, don't they? What are the odds any of them get beat?

In Class A, yes. In Class B, I think any of 3-4 kids have a chance. I'm certainly not going to bet against either of the defending champs (Hale and Baesler).

Interestingly enough, the highest returning finishers from last year's state meet in all four races is currently the underdog? 3 returning state champs and Luz who finished third last year.

I did not realize that. that is crazy! That is what makes XC great! I don't know Luz at all - never met him, but I heard he was a super great kid. Being his senior year, I wouldn't be surprised to see him come out and run great at state. He has a state championship in 1600 so he knows how to win big races!

Courses are tougher out west. They actually have hills on them. Also, the western part of the state has higher average wind speeds than the east.

As for Alex Luz, he's been running quite well, but so has Brody Yoder. I'm excited to watch the state meet. Yoder ran 16:14 FTW in the Maroon division at Griak. If you don't know anything about Griak, know this- it's a TOUGH course. Easily worth sub-16 on a pancake course like Valley City or Grand Forks.

Let’s say Huber wins the class b boys state meet as everyone on this site is saying. Who win senior athlete of year him or Hale?

Isn't there additional criteria such as community service and grades? I am not sure if the coaches ever really consider those but they could be tie breaker mabye?
