this is so wrong on the class B side. Horgishimer first? is this a joke? when Stone and Gallagher both beat him? and Lambert doesnt run a meet so he drops down? and on the girl side. Tess Scott? really? lets get real now. wheres Sasha Hovind on this list?

*Boys
Stone dominated both Lisbon guys last week (Gallagher beat Horgeshimer by less then 2 seconds). Who knows what Lambert can do...but since he didn't run the first meet I can see why some voters (coaches) may have moved him down.

*Girls
Tess Scott ran a 15:24 on a legitiment 4K course (a little flatter than Jamestown's obviously...but the hills wouldn't add 2 whole minutes). I will agree that if Hovind keeps improving..she'll be on this list.

Its early and not everyone has had a meet (or been able to run in a meet), so its harder to rank runners...by mid-season this poll will show who the top runners are...

I'm just shaking my head in disbelief that xc has a poll. Yesterday my thinking was, "OK let them have their little preseason poll its not like they're doing this every week."

Unless these ranking are used to determine where you start in the race I think they're pointless.

XC has had their own poll for at least the past decade...MN has one also for their two classes

I believe that the MN Poll makes the Star Tribune as the season progresses.

Hillsboro was not an accurate course from what I hear. I hear that the girls course was at least .1 mile short, so that would add quite a bit

Interesting. Your gripe with the Class B girls side is with Tess Scott? The 8th grader who qualified in both the mile and two-mile last year? The one who beat #3 Shayla Fossum, #5 Averi Olson and #6 Mackenzie Holkesvig in the very same poll.

BurroXC you beat me to the punch. Runningislife I think the poll will get sorted out in the coming weeks and more importanly at the state XC meet.

The first two polls are not always accurate because not every team has had a meet...and yes it will get sorted out by midseason (mid-September)...plus the more coaches who vote, the better. Pre-Season Poll had 32 coaches vote total...this poll only had 21.

I think there are a lot of runners who you could argue for a top 10 ranking(Madison Gapp comes to mind). The only true way to find out is head to head competition, anything else is really speculation. Run, do you know if class A coaches vote only for class A runners or do they vote for both class A & B? AND Vice Versa.

I'm fairly sure that Class A votes on A runners and Class B votes on B runners.

In all reality...all rankings/polls are pointless because they don't truly determine anything seeding-wise. Football, Basketball, XC...they are all just rankings/polls that truly serve no purpose (other than debate)

I still have to question how "legitiment" the Hillsboro course was when you look at the times.

Boys 5k was 2.99 miles (roughly .11 short).
Girls 4k was 2.45 miles (roughly .05 short).

Sorry I don't frequent the xc thread often, but run covered it.

We live in a society that values stats wayyyyyyyy more than they should. Ever watch SportsCenter? It makes me gag the way they idolize athletes and their stats. DID YOU KNOW THAT NO QUARTERBACK HAS THROWN EXACTLY 15 PASSES IN THE SECOND QUARTER SINCE THE GREAT -insert name here- OVER 40 YEARS AGO?!?!

Who cares? Honestly. One of the things that I love about distance running and track and field is that unless you are doping, you cannot fake your performance. If you can run a sub-17 5k, you will do well. If you can break 50 in the 400 or if you're a girl and can pole vault 11 feet, you don't need a poll to get you to the state meet, you just need to do what you do, because in the end your place at the state tournament doesn't depend on your seed or bracket; it all depends on what you can do.

Don't even get me started on the BCS system.
