south beats st marys 3-1 and minot 7-0

central beats jamestown 3-1 and mandan 4-0

north beats mandan 9-1 and st marys 3-0

red river beats minot 3-1 and jamestown 7-1

west fargo and shanley lose both

this is how i see each conference ending up

West
1. bismarck high
2.century
3.st marys
4.jamestown
5.minot
6.mandan

East
1.south
2.north
3.central
4,5.rr/shanley
6.west fargo

funny how the people you put at the top didnt have to play any of the 2 public bismarck schools....

honestly, i think we need to wait 2-3 games into regular season to have any idea in the east, because the East West didn't prove anything.. I mean, Central beat Jamestown and Mandan..... but so could a good U-15 team. Not saying at all that Central won't be good, just that the results don't predict much.

I think you could say the same about pretty much any HS team in ND- a good U15 team could beat them.  Central could easily have beat Jamestown by another 5 goals had their goalkeeper not kept them in the game.

I watched pretty much every team at the East-West, and really the only team that impressed me at all in terms of decent soocer was Century.  Virtually every other team I watched played kickball- long balls over the top and run onto them.  Pretty ugly soccer to watch.

and century didnt? obviously it was effective for them, but much of their game is predicated on using their 3 forwards to s tretch the D and then through balls...

You are correct- Century is pretty direct.  However, I was impressed with how they possessed the ball in the back and through the midfield, played away from pressure and switched fields, etc.  In fairness, I did not see a lot of BHS' games, so they may be as good.  Most of what I saw at the East-West though, from most teams there, was blindly kicking the ball forward for strikers to run onto, and losing possession most of the time.

It's early- it can only get better.

Well, looks like you got number 1 right.... other then that right now the bottom 5 are chaotic, wow.

I personally gotta say i underestimated south, but after watching them play....i think everyone who thougt south wouldn't do well was focused too much on their "lack of a dominant player" without really thinking about the fact that, at south, every single person they put on the field is an athlete. they never have to think about where is someone who is especially weak.... if your playing, your most likely fast/good with the ball. And i think their the only team (besides perhaps north) that can say that.

anyway, looks like the east's gonna be exciting.....should be fun

I think that is a little bit of exaggeration.  It's nice that Dana Asplund is playing soccer for UMary, but she is not the best player to ever come out of ND.  She's a good player and I'm glad she's continuing to play.

i doubt anyone still looks at this topic but i just thought i should clear up the fact that century didnt use three forwards at the east west classic, we used two, but congrats on working the word predicated into your post
