Here are the top teams in the current EDC standings. Only 4 teams go to the State Tournament. Who doesn't make it?
Fargo Shanley 8 - 2
West Fargo 6 - 1
GF Red River 6 - 2
Fargo North 6 - 2
Fargo South 6 - 2
Fargo Davies 4 - 2

Good question. I would put Davies on the outside since they haven't beaten any of the other teams you listed. Other than that I would say it is pretty wide open. Shanley beat Red River and West Fargo, but lost badly to North and South. South beat North and Shanley but lost to Red River. Next week's Red River vs North and South vs West Fargo games should be interesting.

My guess (and not necessarily in this order) would be North, South, Red River, and West Fargo.

I would think that it will be WF, North, Shanley, and South (however, I could see RR get in over South; there are 5 solid teams)

That's a very competitive upper end to the confernce.

Davies plays very hard, but I think they are just on the outskirts of the other teams in terms of talent, and more importantly experience.

North has some very good looking players, but they seem to be so up and down it's hard to know what your going to get from them. They don't play as hard as the others consistently IMO, but I think they have the most talent in the east.

WF is good, and they are very consistent.

I do not know much about Red River, or South.

Shanley has been solid all year and I would have said they were the best at this point, but they got completely manhandled by both North and South, and I'm not really sure where that leaves them.

Is it true that North was without Larson early in the season when they had a couple of loses?
It looks like WF has a lot of EDC points from 2 point victories over Valley City, Wahpeton and Central (1)but they look tough. I am predicting North, West Fargo, Red River, and Shanley (but not necessarily in that order) to make it out of the Region.

Tomorrow night there are 2 big matches that will help us see who is tops in the EDC. This year it is very even in the top 4 or 5, unlike last year when RR seemed to dominate.

Tuesday, October 5
Wahpeton @ Fargo Davies
Fargo South @ Fargo North
Fargo Shanley @ West Fargo
GF Red River @ GF Central

Three interesting matches tonight:
  • Shanley @ West Fargo has the top two teams playing with the winner taking sole possession of first place.
  • South @ North. South has been hot lately but North took them to 5 sets the last time they played.
  • Wahpeton @ Davies. Wahpeton beat Davies earlier in the season, but Davies seems to be improving.
My picks: West Fargo, South, Davies and Red River.

Red River beat Central 19-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-12, 15-11. Red River might be the odd team out of the top 5.

1-3 and almost 0-4. I think I will stay away from Vegas for a while.

It is tough out here in the edc, it really could be any of the top 5 teams. North played, no hit amazingly against South. In order Shanley, West Fargo, South, North, Red River. Going to state North, South, West Fargo, and fourth I don't know Red River.

Why is there never any love for Shanley?!?!

I dunno. I watched Shanley play a couple of times this year--and they never have impressed me. However, they're obviously doing something right because they're posting wins against tough opponents.

They just beat West Fargo on the road in a packed house!! To be at the top of the EDC, they must be doing something right

There should be love for each of the top 5 teams in the East. Any one of those teams are capable of beating anyone on any given night, and have. The EDC tournament should be a good one, and there will be one very good team that could compete in the State Tournament not even going.

Very, very true. Every team in the top 5 has at least 2 wins and at least 2 losses against other top 5 teams.

After last weekend's tournament, I was least impressed with Shanley and West Fargo (and South did not have Wellentin playing so they did not look that great) and most impressed by North. I think North is improving every match and has not hit their stride and RR is still getting their injured players back into the rotation. They are still a question mark but have a lot of 2 pt matches left. It will be a dog fight to the end.

This week in the EDC.

Fargo Davies 3, GF Central 0 (29-27, 25-22, 25-14)
West Fargo 3, Wahpeton 0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-15) (2 point match)
Fargo North 3, Valley City 0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-17) (2 point match)
GF Red River 3, Fargo Shanley 0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-14)
Fargo South 3, Fargo Davies 0 (25-15, 25-9, 25-22) (2 point match)

The only surprise is that Red River dominated Shanley. Since it was in Grand Forks I expected RR to win a very close match, not a blowout.

I was not surprised that RR won in 3 considering last time they played, RR was without Strand and another player was injured and played only part of the match. Both of those girls are starters. Take 2 starters off any other East team and it makes a big difference! Besides, Olson's teams always seem to improve throughout the season while other teams peak too early. I thought Central would beat Davies this time. I predict Central is a team who will be a spoiler at tournament time. My prediction is that North and RR will be the top 2 teams once EDC play is done. Those 2 are rising to the top.

Yes it is true that Larson was out early in the season with a back injurie so she missed a few games early on.
