They don't have the scores in the paper, so I don't have the specifics, but FSHP beat Kindred 3 - 0, and Northern Cass beat Central Cass 3 - 1. So the seeds from District 2 look like this:

1 Northern Cass
2 Central Cass
3 FSHP
4 Kindred

There were approx. 15 girls on the all-district team and I can name the four from Central Cass: Tayler Camas, Megan Piper, Madison Gegleman and Kayla Nelson. Also, Kayla Nelson got District 2 Senior Athlete of the Year. She is an awesome setter and I'm glad she got some recognition.

She is a stud. I'm not real sure there's another setter in the state to compare to her. She can hit any spot on the floor, stays calm, she's a leader, I was really really impressed with her last night. The telling sign of the match however was that Brittney Olson just took over every time the match was close. Every tie it seemed liked she was in the front row and would rattle of 3 or 4 kills. It was a real fun match to watch.

My gut feeling is that everything will go according to seed in the first round---but that we'll see a N. Cass/C. Cass championship match and I would pick N. Cass to win it all. NC has Brittany Olson who is a big-game ball player---and then it helps that they have 3 other hitters that can put the ball away. Either way though, I wouldn't mind seeing C. Cass win it---I like their speed and defensive intensity---it's fun to watch.
If there's an upset in the first round, I'd pick Kindred to pull one on Lisbon. I've seen kindred play great this season and I've seen them play really poorly---but I just think they match up well with lisbon size wise/blocking wise. It'll depend on how well kindred's young kids play.

Lisbon advances to state tourney
Heath Hotzler, The Forum

LISBON, N.D. – A heaping serving of meat and potatoes on Thursday helped put the Lisbon volleyball team in the state tournament for the third consecutive season.

Broncos junior Kali Olson and senior Veronica Munkeby – a tandem coach Amy Lyons calls the team’s meat and potatoes – combined for 32 kills to lead the Broncos to a 29-27,

25-18, 29-27 victory against Northern Cass in the North Dakota Class B, Region 1 title game at Lisbon Gymnasium.

The Broncos will face Region 4 champion Langdon in the first round of the state tournament at noon next Thursday at the Minot State Dome in Minot.

“We have the experience,” said Olson, who is unsure which of the food items best describes her game. “This is our third time in the region championship. We knew how to handle the pressure.”

There was plenty of pressure against the Jaguars.

Northern Cass (34-4) kept pace with the Broncos throughout the night, beginning with a scrappy first set.

The Jaguars were at the brink of a 1-0 lead with 24-23 lead when Lisbon snagged the win away.

Munkeby and Olson came up four of the Broncos’ final six points in the first set.

“(Olson) killed us tonight,” Northern Cass coach Jerry Daily said. “I thought we could have had Game 1, and we could have won Game 3. But I thought (Lisbon) played a smart game.”

Lisbon (34-8) took advantage of the Jaguars’ struggles to serve receive all night.

Munkeby used a running serve in the second set to throw Northern Cass off balance, and help the Broncos break away to a 13-10 advantage.

Lisbon outscored Northern Cass 6-3 to finish off the second set. The Jaguars again had game point in the third set with a 24-23 lead.

However, Lisbon kept its poise to rally for the win.

Central Cass defeated Wyndmere 25-19, 25-14, 25-19 in the third-place match.

Daily was named Region 1 coach of the year. Munkeby was selected senior athlete of the year.

“We’ve been focused on getting to this game the whole season,” Olson said. “We knew they were a good team. We just had to limit our mistakes.”

NORTHERN CASS (kills-blocks-aces): Olson 12-1-0, Maddocks 7-0-3 (12 digs), Lundquist 0-0-3, Lako 0-0-0 (31 assists).

LISBON: Munkeby 16-2-4, Olson 16-0-0, Tar. Wagner 5-2-2, Tay. Wagner 0-0-3, Rotenberger 0-0-2. Lyons 0-0-0 (12 digs, 27 assists).
