Class B -- 13 seniors, 2 juniors, and then 1 freshman. I didn't see that many volleyball teams this year, but I remember saying in a webcast that there probably weren't any freshman as good as Hagler.

Few thoughts:
First off, I realize there are always deserving kids left off the list.

Is this voted on by media in a similar fashion as basketball, or is it coaches?

If MPB or Carrington makes the state tournament, I have no doubt Megan Moser and Kadyn Mehring would make the team. I can't figure out how they missed Sadie Hansen. (Admittedly some region 3 bias since that is where I see most of the games, although I have seen most of the players on the list.)

Is it 8 west players, 8 east on purpose? Doesn't seem fair to put a limit on east players when the best volleyball is being played in the east.

Again, I realize deserving kids are left off all the time.

NDHSCA Honor - so coaches vote here; yes I guess it is 8/8 split for a reason (that’s what a I learned yesterday)

Imagine if the best players in the state were actually on this list. It would look much different. No just an age and geographical area award

Is it like that for other sports?

Basketball is voted on by the NDAPSSA
Football is coaches but I don’t think there are limitations to half-in-half the players...at least I don’t think so

I agree that there are always deserving players left off of All-State teams but the I think the system used by the volleyball coaches actually increases the odds of that happening. My understanding is that there is an absolute 8/8 split between east and west by design (as Run elluded to earlier). Not sure that this actually creates a true "all-state" team but rather an "all-east" team and an "all-west" team (my opinion). This apparently was a system put in place by the volleyball coaches. As I understand it, each region can submit 4 athletes from their region to be placed on the all-state ballot. These are voted on by the region coaches. So there are 16 players from the east and 16 from the west on the ballot to be voted on by the coaches. Not sure how the coaches vote from there (do the east coaches vote on the west and vice versa) but the final product is 8 from the east and 8 from the west.
I know Sporstfan111 mentioned three athletes that he thought deserved consideration. I have seen all three play and I would tend to agree with him. Sad fact is that at least one of them wasn't even on the ballot because both Entzi and Schmitz made the all-state team.

I know high school baseball used to have 2 players from each region on the all-state team. I don't know if that process has changed.
