I know Region 3 has some really good teams, but LaMoure is an absolute great team that has very few (if any) weaknesses, and has to be the hands down favorite in the region, as well as the favorite to be the first Class B team to win three straight State titles. IMO, MPB, Oakes and Carrington will finish in the top four of the region, but none of them have shown they can stand up to LaMoure. I don’t know what kind of schedule LaMoure has, but I will be surprised if they lose to a Class B team during the course of this season. Not saying it is impossible, but it would be a tremendous feat. They are THAT good.

After watching Carrington play Lamoure last night, I have to agree. Carrington has a very good hitting and blocking team, but their backrow is horrible. Lamoure always seems to play great defense. Holen and Mickeljohn know each other very well and they are very fun to watch.

That being said, there is a lot of volleyball to be played. Carrington, Oakes, and Medina all lost major pieces last year. Coaches will probably make some adjustments by the end of the season. I expect if Lamoure gets to state again, they will have as hard of a time getting through region 3 as they did last year.

Cavalier beat DVE by forfeit, what happened there?

Typical reasoning...someone played too many matches for DVE.

With the rule change this year, that's pretty embarrassing for that to happen

Small schools tend to have this issue...but at least it was reported quickly and honestly.

Someone want to guess seeds for the state tournament assuming the top team in each region advances?

Assuming all the #1s go, I'd guess the following would be pretty accurate seeding... knowing that QRF rankings look a little different. I think there's a lot of parity in my teams 3-6 so any of those could swap with each other without surprising me.

1. LLM (R3)
2. Langdon (R4)
3. Our Redeemers (R6)
4. Thompson (R2)
5. Dickinson Trinity (R7)
6. Central Cass (R1)
7. Shiloh (R5)
8. Watford City (R8)

Shiloh isn't even R5's #1 seed (Center-Stanton is #1...Shiloh got #2 seed via H2H tiebreak with Flasher). If those were the teams I'd likely switch your 3 & 4 and your 5 & 6

Admittedly - I don't know much about R5; just made that assumption based on QRF. No offense meant to the Center-Stanton folks.(But I still think they'll be a 7 seed) :)

R5, R8 are most likely two of the 3 randomly drawn teams; the other randomly drawn team (if all top teams make it) will be a tough out for a seeded team.

I would put Central Cass at 4 or 5. They beat Our Redeemers this year and are one of the few teams to take a set from Lamoure. Of course, they need to get out of a very competitive region 1 first.

My question is will Lamoure make it out of their region? Medina-Pingree-Buchanan has met them 3 times this year. First game was a blow out with Lamoure winning. Second game was really close with Lamoure winning. The third game was even closer going to five set with a 3-2 win for MPB. So is MPB getting better and Lamoure just playing the same and not improving much over the season, or was it just luck on MPB's side. Any thoughts on the game if these two saw each other in the regional championship?

First time MPB & LaMoure played...I believe MPB lost a key player to an injury earlier in that tournament. MPB was healthy the other two times they've faced LaMoure. MPB will have to beat Carrington first in the semifinals (if/when they win their district tonight)...so that may be a factor as well.

My Region Thoughts on possible State Participants; Listed in order of likelihood of making Region Championship/State Tournament:

Region 1: Central Cass, Northern Cass, Lisbon, Oak Grove

Region 2: Thompson, Park River-FL, May-Port-CG

Region 3: LaMoure-LM, Medina/Pingree-Buchanan, Carrington, Oakes

Region 4: Langdon/Edmore/Munich (North Star is closest in contention...but it's a BIG gap)

Region 5: Center-Stanton, Shiloh Christian, Grant County, Flasher, Garrison-Max, Underwood (who gets hot?)

Region 6: Our Redeemer's, Des Lacs-Burlington, Rugby, Lewis & Clark-Berthold (substantial gap after ORCS)

Region 7: Dickinson Trinity, Hazen, Heart River, Killdeer, Hettinger-Scranton

Region 8: Watford City, Kenmare, Powers Lake (Stanley has played well as of late).

I don’t think it’s that Lamoure isn’t improving. I would say most teams are. Maybe these teams are a little more motivated to knock off the powerhouse that is Lamoure?

MPB will for sure have a tougher road to the championship. They will open the tournament against EKM, who they went five with earlier in the season. If MPB comes out flat, I could see this going 4-5. I don’t think MPB will lose, but it could take more energy to get the win compared to Lamoure and Carringtons first round games. Carrington will also be a tough match for MPB. Last time they met MPB won in three, but all three sets were close. If MPB gets to the championship, I got them winning in 5. If Carrington knocks them off, I’ll take Lamoure in 5. Hope for a great tourney with everyone staying healthy!

Lamoure has not been healthy the last couple weeks- colds/bronchitis/flu, their key players have played but they have not been 100%. If they get healthy I have them beating MPB in 5, but they have to get healthy first. Also don't forget about Napoleon over in that District- they took MPB to 4 and are very well coached. Region 3 is by far the most competitive region in the state and will have great matches every night of the tournament.

The MPB- Carrington game was nuts. MPB came out in the 5th set and got a 11-1 lead. Carrington fought back and ended up losing 17-15. Would’ve been a gutsy comeback. Lamoure vs MPB.... I have no idea. Lamoure has big game experience and great coaching. There’s something about this MPB team and the energy they play with...

MPB in another region 3 five set thriller.

Who do you have Run? I trust your judgement. Sad that the top 2 teams in the state have to play each other in Region 3. That's going to be a heck of a match.
