General Volleyball Discussion

Any predictions on who will represent each region at state? I throw out what little knowledge I have on the subject.
R2 - PRFL I'm thinking is the clear front runner. Region runner up in '15 and return a lot.
R3 - Carrington, LaMoure, and SB? I'm not really sure on this.
R4 - North Star, have to imagine they're the favorite in their region or maybe Langdon, they always have a good team too.

R1 - Very balanced region...if OG has their backrow figured out they should be the favorites
R2 - Park River-FL - clear favorite
R3 - LaMoure; several others will contend
R4 - Always seems to come down to N. Star & Langdon
R5 - Unknown...kind off my unknown region
R6 - Our Redeemer's - returns most of their team and nearly all of their key positions...my favorite for State champ
R7 - Dickinson Trinity
R8 - Look at Region 5...since I don't have most of their schedules do they even exist ;) Ray always contends.

Too bad North Star and Langdon are in the same region, both deserve to go to State this year. Saw NS play here at Rugby, and they are very good and a well balanced team, to go with Kvilvang who can dominate. I have seen Langdon 3 times now and they are not only better than last year, but a lot deeper, even though they lost a lot of talent and athletic ability.

I think Region 2 will come down to whomever is hot in the tournament. Park River just lost to North Border, after winning in 5 close games to Thompson the week before. Drayton, Mayville and Finley are certainly in the mix too.

Does anyone have the scoring of the Carrington-Medina match?
No undefeated teams left, but 4 teams with 1 loss, and two of those (Langdon & North Star) go head to head on Monday.

Medina/Pingree-Buchanan def. Carrington 3-2 (25-21, 25-19, 13-25, 17-25, 15-13)

Anna Holen went over 2000 kills tonight. She had 38 for the match. Hard to believe she is just a junior. LaMoure and Carrington should be a classic on Monday for the championship. Entire Region 3 tournament should be fun the region is stacked.

LaMoure's junior setter Meiklejohn also went over 3,000 assists a couple weeks ago. 2 very talented players. Curious if there are state records like there is for basketball (points, rebounds). Both of these girls are going to have outstanding numbers by the time they are done.

I don't think there are any official state records for basketball. Maybe I'm wrong.

I don't believe there are any state records. Setter Mya Steinwehr was the first to receive 3,000 a few weeks into the season and I believe they checked and don't have records but they said they have never heard of anyone coming close to that before. I hope they start keeping them now. Both amazing setters.

Favorites in 2017?
I'll guess Thompson in R2, Lamoure in R3 and Langdon in R4.

Top 3 thoughts in all regions (a couple of regions have 4 listed as it was hard to choose between them)

Region 1: Central Cass, Northern Cass, Oak Grove/Kindred
Region 2: Park River-FL, Drayton/Valley-Edinburg, Thompson
Region 3: LaMoure, Carrington, Medina/Pingree-Buchanan
Region 4: Langdon, North Star, Harvey-Wells County (Langdon is heads-and-tails ahead of region).
Region 5: Shiloh Christian, Grant County, Center-Stanton
Region 6: Our Redeemer's, Des Lacs-Burlington, Bishop Ryan
Region 7: Dickinson Trinity, Hazen, Heart River
Region 8: Watford City, Ray, Kenmare/Powers Lake

ORCS & LaMoure are my favorites to meet in Title

**My knowledge lacks a bit in R5, R7 & R8...so I may be off in those regions**

Went to the Central Cass tournament last weekend and the #1 thing I took from it is LaMoure is above and beyond everyone else at this point. They gel so well together and it doesn't hurt they have the best player in the state. From Region #2 I was impressed with Thompson and PRFL- both very scrappy teams.

Attended valley city tournament this past weekend. My thoughts:
Lamoure is definitely the best region 3 team right now. My order goes Lamoure, Oakes, Medina, Carrington. Medina's best player got hurt during the championship, hopefully nothing too serious. Oakes was a surprise. They have some good hitters and a great setter. Medina and Carrington both have great hitters, but both seem to have some setting problems. By the end of the year I expect all four to be great teams and I can see any one of them making it to state.

I said last years state championship was the region 3 championship, this years could be too.

Lamoure looks too tough to beat in Region 3, their defense and backrow play is as good as I have seen in a long time, they cover everything. Medina looks solid from the front row but didn't see the injury. Dale from Carrington always gets his girls competing hard at the end of the season and can upset anyone and the setter from Oakes is great and only a freshman if my memory serves me right..should end up to be fun at tournament time.

what is the rule on how many matches and tournaments you can play? I'll assume it's different if you don't have districts?

So who made a mistake here?

No One...Region 2 has a Super Regional format and therefore follows the Class A section:

4. The season for Class A schools as well as schools participating in a super-regional is:
18 regular season matches plus 2 tournaments
16 regular season matches plus 3 tournaments
14 regular season matches plus 4 tournaments (No team or individual may compete in more than four regular season tournaments.)
